Where to stay in Crete? Kalives, Georgioupolis or Rethymnon

I plan on travelling to Crete mid-July for 6 nights, and I'm looking advice on where to stay - Kalives, Georgioupolis or Rethymnon?

There will be two of us and we are looking for:

1. Beach - one close by that isn't super crowded; alongside the opportunity to visit to any spectacular beaches/lagoons without travelling for too long

2. Exploring by foot and good transport links (we can't drive!)

4. Beautiful views and the chance to see Kri-kri goats

5. Authentic Greek food and wine/spirits

I'm wondering if anyone can with suggestions on where would be best to stay

Im just back from Kalives, we stayed at the Kalives apartments just outside Kalives. The apartments are lovely and very close to the sea and a sandy beach.
Kalives itself is 20 minute walk away and appears to be a working Greek village with butches shops, bakers and other shops, a few hotels, nice tavernas and a good selection of beach tavernas near the harbour. There is a small square with an excellent snack bar for Gyros and grilled meat. Food was very good and every meal ends with some fruit and a flask of Raki :-)
Buses to Chania run through the village. I liked it very much and will return.
Our taxi from the airport rank was 36.50 euros, the apartment owner booked a return taxi at a fixed price of 35 euros.

Im sorry I cant help with the goats and Lagoons, we found the place very relaxing and didn't go far.
