Dublin transfers

Hello,

The Mrs and I are off to Dublin in July and had a few questions as we've never been before.

Firstly, is it worth booking transfers to the city centre? We're staying in a hotel around temple bar. What would a taxi cost to get there?

Also we land quite early and I'm guessing we won't be able to check in the hotel for a few hours after we get there. Anyone know of some good places we can go and eat and spend time until we can check in?

Thank you.

Its not that far, i would suggest an uber, a rough google search estimates it to be around 18-23 euros.

Or a bus - not sure how up to date this is with fares

If you get a Leap card to travel around while you're there this includes airport buses

A taxi from the airport has to be registered with the Dublin Airport Authority, so I doubt UBER would be an option. Since taxis have to pay a registration fee for working from the Airport the fares are a little more expensive from the airport to the city, than going to the airport from the city. But I should think about €30 coming in and about €25 going back.

As martindow has said the LEAP travel card is great. There is a special one for visitors that includes the airport bus out and back (Dublin Bus)+ unlimited travel on all modes (Dublin Bus, Tram, and rail - DART) for various numbers of days. Great value. The airport bus run by Dublin Bus comes through the Port Tunnel, so the journey is fairly quick, but it does meander a bit when it gets to the city as it serves many of the hotels dotted around. It stops near Temple Bar too, ask the driver, they are very helpful.

If you don't want to get the visitor leap card you can get Aircoach or Dublin Bus to the city for about €6 each way, and you can book online.

There are numerous places around to have breakfast and pass the time. Trinity College and Grafton Street are close by Temple Bar. Have a stroll around and see what you like.

Any more questions, fire away. Hope you have a nice time.

Gerrys Coffee Shop just behind St Stephens Green does a lovely breakfast and the prices are very reasonable,

I have just come back from a conference in Dublin. Aircoach runs a service into the centre and the return fare was 14 Euros (8 Euros 1 way). I took route 700 from the airport to the City Centre. I can't help you with places to eat. Had really wet weather and saw little of the City.
  • We went to Dublin a couple of years ago and paid in the region of 40-50 euros for s taxi from the airport. On the return journey we got the bus transfer which stopped round the corner from our hotel and was about 8 euros each instead!

I would recommend a guided tour of trinity college, beautiful grounds and such history. Kilmainham jail also a highlight. We did a free walking tour (where you tip the guide at the e d if you think it's worth it - it was) it was about three hours and covered a vast amount of history.

There are so many places to eat and drink in temple bar I wouldn't worry.

I loved Dublin! If you have any questions just shout :)

Im just back from Dublin, a taxi from the airport rank to St. Stephens Green Shopping centre on Friday afternoon in fairly heavy traffic was 25 Euros.

I stayed at Trinity and the Buttery there does a good value and tasty buffet breakfast. 5 choices plus 2x toast and unlimited coffee was about 7 Euros
