Hi
I am 34 and just about to sign up to a distance learning Bookkeeping and Accountancy course.
Does anyone know if I would be eligible for any financial help? I have had a quick look on the internet but I was flooded by information!
Not really sure if I even come under the title of student? Can I get student discounts/bank accounts etc?!
Thanks in advance to anyone that helps me. :T

I am not sure how 'recognised' your diploma will be, as it is not accredited by any institution.
You would not be able to get a student bank account, and I would be surprised if you got an NUS card.
There is information available here about finance for part time students in higher education, but I doubt that your course would qualify.
There is also the Adult Learning Grant, but that is only available if you attend a college.
Does your local college not offer a bookkeeping course? I have a feeling you would be better off studying through a recognised institution? xGone ... or have I?0 -
To be honest with you a recognised institution would be better, I just have been a bit overwhelmed when looking on the internet for a relevant course as there seem to be so many!!!
Any advice would be welcomeI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Same questions ...
Does the course actually lead to a recognised qualification?
If so, at what level?Gone ... or have I?0 -
Oh Sorry for being thick about all this!
It leads to
Qualifications- Institute of Certified Book-keepers Foundation and Intermediate level Book-keeping (manual)
- London Chamber of Commerce and Industry First level Book-keeping
- Pitman Book-keeping Levels 1 & 2.
