wouldnt say it is generous, the OP could return, less return costs and possible deduction in the refund (op didnt say if there would be) wether retailer liked it or not.

I know, but what I'm saying is that most retailers wouldn't go to the trouble of saying it can be done. Perhaps generous was the wrong word, but better customer service than the OP would have received from many retailers.0 -
I'd be inclined to try and speak with a manager, and have a candid chat - point out that the suggested solution of returning and reordering puts them to significant inconvenience processing a return and shipping a new product, and also leaves them with an opened product that they may have trouble reselling. Surely a more sensible approach would be to find a mutual agreeable rebate to save you both the hassle?0
