IMAP mailbox trouble

This morning when I opened Windows Live Mail 2012, a screen came up saying something about organising folders and when it opened, my main (default) email account had disappeared 
I rebooted but still nothing, so I reinstalled the account on WLM and the IMAP folders and messages came back. This is fine but when I send an email, it doesn't go into the sent items folder, which is not so good. Does anyone know how I can restore this please, and even why the account was wiped in the first place please, so I can prevent it from happening again? Any help greatly appreciated.

IMAP is typically used when the mail is stored on a remote server. Does your mail provider offer a web-based mail interface ? It might be easier to see what's going on with that.0
