Is there a way of checking if a car manufacturer is going to retire/relaunch a model?

I'm thinking of buying a Mazda 3 but I was just curious if theres any way of knowing if this is due to be changed/relaunched in the near future (just thinking of the knock on effect on residual value).

Does anyone know if the manufacturers announce forthcoming changes to their line up anywhere?

    Try asking a main dealer.

The Mazda 3 was launched in 2003 and had a facelift last year. Manufacturers usually give a model a 7 year life span, so the new Mazda 3 will probably be due in 2010.

  • That segment of cars tends to either update or replace the model every 5-7 years. The Mazda 3 was introduced in december 2003, so it should have a good few years yet.

The new one will be based on the next Ford Focus platform (like the current Mazda 3 is based on the current Focus) and thats appearing in 2010 I believe, judging from press reports. So in other words, somewhere round then!
  • I remeber that I used to get a car mag that had this "Due to be replaced?" information along with all the other model data in the huge "New Car Data" section at the back.

Trouble is I can't recall which one, I suspect it was either "What Car" or "Car". A few minutes in the magazine aisle at Tesco should reveal the right one.
My eyes! The goggles do nothing!
  • Both What car and AutoExpress highlight known model changes /facelifts over the next few months.

In www.five.tv/fifthgear site you will get replacement due date for most models in the market.

But no idea about re-launch, though.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Thanks for all the replies. It says 2011 on the Five website so thats good enough as a general guide. I did ask a main dealer but he just said it had a recent facelift last year and didnt have information for a replacement.
