Car insured thru father

Hi all,
I am a lot older now but can remember a claim I made.
Due to being very young at the time prob 18 lol I couldn't afford my own insurance so had to take it out thru my dad. However the car or any other car I bought was always in my name.
In the good old days we stuck with the same insurance company for years on end.
One day my car was broken into and although I didn't have the money decided to make a claim. Only to be told that because the car was in my name and the insurance in my dads no claim could be made.
They were quite happy to take the premiums for 10 years or so but never once mentioned the car should have been in my dads name.
I always think back about this and wonder they were right of just flannelling me.
Prob no way of claiming or the claim being officially noted and their answer ?
Co operative insurance who weren't very co operative lol
I am sure there are thousands of young drivers in the same boat being insured thru their parents ?
regards
Douglas

You and your Dad look to have been (inadvertently) fronting (google it)
You benefitted by cheaper insurance over the years! Karma came when you were found out.
When applying your Dad (inadvertently) always agreed he was the owner of the car. Blame him not the Co-op!0 -
Whilst I see what you are saying, but I can guarantee nothing was deliberate, dad is the most law abiding person I have ever known and wouldn't break the law or harm a fly for anyone.
On paper they maybe were to ask who owned the car but no guarantee they did and I Can guarantee we never intentionally tried to pull a fast one.
Sometimes it was the local Coop insurance agent who may have come round to the house for payment for that and other policies too.0 -

Whenever I have done a quote this question is always asked and has been since I started working in insurance in 2004First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -

.
You protest unnecessarily - see the word "inadvertently" in #2
Nevertheless this is all down to your Dad's inadvertent error.
You benefitted from it until they found out
Just let it go (you could open up a hornets nest if you take this up with the co-op)0 -

You did do it deliberately. You did it to save money.
Lots of people used to do it.0
