Girl's best friend

Hi All

Would appreciate a little forearmed information.

Bought a diamond engagement ring in Feb 2015 from a well-known nationwide store, with a 1-year warranty. A diamond has come out and been lost.

The store wants to see it - naturally - and possibly send it to the manufacturer to see if has been 'abused', which I gather means has it been knocked. We're sure it hasn't as it's kept in a soft pouch and only worn when out. It's beeen very well looked after.

Just wondering, as the guarantee period is up, if they say it was not a manufacturing fault, do we have any legal grounds to dispute this? Merchantable quality, fit for purpose or whatever?

Thanks.

Yes but you will need to proof that via an independent report .Then proceed under the Sale Of Goods Act against the vendor .

They are very unlikely to replace a lost diamond unless you can show it was a manufacturing fault. You'll need an independent report paid for at your own risk to establish this.

Surely you're not stuffed until they tell you it's not a manufacturing fault.....

True. But it's out of guarantee and my faith in companies doing the decent thing is low. But we'll see.

They don't have to do "the decent thing", they have to follow the law.
