When to book the removal company?

Hi all,

All parties in the chain have agreed to a 30th June completion date.

However, exchange is likely to happen Friday 24th June, more likely the following Monday due to awaiting deposit funds from the bottom of the chain.

My question is when would the best time be to book the removal company??

We have already had the quote which we're happy with but I was unsure as to whether we needed to wait until exchange and whether to take out their cancellation and late key waiver (£112 and £40 respectively).

Also to note is that they company requires payment in full at the time of booking.

Can anyone give me their thoughts on what they would do??

Thanks

What will you do if you phone up to book on Monday and they say sorry we are fully booked out for the 30th?

    There's your answer.

If you have a contingency plan, you can afford to wait. If you don't then I would book it with a cancellation waiver.

Mine have always booked provisional dates which have been confirmed on exchange.

Maybe sort out a backup if yours won't provisionally book.

Fridays are MUCH busier than other weekdays. They are likely to be booked.

Don't confirm before exchange. It can all fall through.

That sounds a bit naughty, charging extra for changing dates etc when clearly it is out of your control.

All the firms I had to quote were happy to pencil things in, actually I paid them nothing at all. I discussed with them the potential moving dates that were being talked about and they told me how likely it was they could do it.

The firm I wanted (cheaper and used them before) ended up unable to do it as they were fully booked on the date my chain were demanding. Fair enough, small firm, they warned me they needed 2 weeks notice but my chain wanted to complete only a few days after exchange.

I had two other firms who had quoted who I kept in touch with as the dates changed, and went with the one who could do it in the end (far more expensive unfortunately for us)

We paid nothing until it was exchanged and therefore confirmed. Till then they all put in lots of phone calls and had us in the diary but only one firm could get the job!

Do not pay a penny until exchange. Previously my buyer pulled out 2 days before exchange (he wanted to complete same day so the removals firm were poised ready to start loading us up the afternoon he pulled out as we had a lot of stuff and it was short notice) We ended up moving ourselves as we bought a few weeks before our new sale went through. The removals firm lost out but it's just hard luck, could not be helped!

I would speak to the removal company and let the know the situation. Mine where fab and penciled me in they just wanted confirmation the week before.

Sorry just read your post again Full payment ??? No sorry deposit then payment on the day. Think that it is unfair to ask you to pay in full. What happens if they have a problem ? No sorry I would try someone else?

Its not unreasonable for the Removal Company to want to get paid if the job has been cancelled ! We still have wages and bills to pay

OP you need to bite the bullet , book and pay the cancellation insurance . Most reputable removal companies will have a sliding scale of fees to charge if the move is cancelled
