We are in the fortunate position of being offered a free holiday in Portugal in August.
We need to arrange our own flights and I wondered if anyone can advise on when is the best time to obtain cheap flights. I have been told six month before you go is the time to start looking can any one confirm this. Thanks AD

The travel market can be wonky sometimes so start looking now. I know people that have booked their summer holiday to Spain already for next summer heh. You might find some good deals starting in the next few weeks so keep an eye out. Otherwise look after christmas.
Good luck

We have an apartment in Portugal and so fly a lot from the North West. We have found that Jet2.com is the best, followed by Monarch. We can go from a few airports, Blackpool being the most convenient, or Manchester or Leeds Bradford. We find that Jet2.com are cheap as soon as you can book (they may not have the flights up on the site yet for next August), then they seem to go more expensive, then slightly cheaper and then finally really expensive just before you want to fly. Alternatively Monarch from Manchester is good as they have two flights a day and is sometimes cheaper than Jet2. We are going for October and we had to get a Monarch flight as Blackpool has gone more expensive. I think Jet2 also flies from East Midlands and others. We have had flights (in December) for nothing, just the taxes or else really cheap. Of course, August won't be cheap but good luck.0
