Laptop really slow after Windows 10 automatic update

Hi
I have a Toshiba laptop which is only a few months old.
Everything seemed fine until Windows 10 automatically installed updates. I am assuming this is the cause as the problems only started then.
Now it is slow to boot, slow to get onto Internet Explorer and when on it very slow to download anything especially if there are pictures and/or advertisements. The CPU is also very noisy when I am on IE.
I am also having problems opening links from emails (the message is something about windows cannot access it because of the network path). However, if I already have my browser open on another site, I can click on the email link (which didn't work before) and it connects!
I would be grateful for any advice. However, my technical knowledge is very basic, so could you please give it to me in a 'Dummies guide' format!
Many thanks.

Did the install complete correctly? If so check the memory usage in task manager for startup items as chances are some of these can be disabled0

Hi
Thanks for the reply. The installation did complete successfully.
However, although booting up is taking longer, it is the other problems that are making me most frustrated.
I was looking on Ebay and it took ages for me to scroll down the page after a search as it either came up with 'not responding' or else just hung there (whilst the CPU churned) until eventually it would let me look a bit further down the page. I gave up in the end.
When I try to go back a page on any site it takes ages for it to do this.
My old laptop, (5 years old, Windows 7), which I only had to replace because the keyboard packed up, is far faster than this!
On my old laptop I could see what updates were being installed and choose them. I usually chose the important ones only. On Windows 10 you do not have this option as it just does it automatically.
From a laptop which was working perfectly well to now go to something like this is really annoying.
Any other suggestions more than welcome!
PS I have done virus, malware scans etc and nothing was found.0
