How do I register as unemployed

My fixed term contract ended on Friday. I tried to register as unemployed on line and claim JSA. System sent me to Universal Credit site but gave me number to call. Called Monday morning and went through all the questions already gone through twice to be told I need to apply for Universal Credit and given another number to call. First number was free second number wasn't and had to hang on for 20 minutes. Answered questions for fourth time. Told I can't claim until after I get final salary at end of month, 2 weeks away. I then have another 7 days that don't count before waiting 6 weeks for benefit to be paid
Is this correct? Since they wouldn't let me make a claim I can't ask for it to be reviewed.

You can make your new claim for Universal Credit from the first day you are unemployed, I suggest you bypass the phone method anda mke your claim online.

Benefits such as JSA, ESA or UC aren't paid for the first 7 days of any claim. Normally they are self certified days. DWP only pay from the 8th day onwards.

If you claimed UC now and got a payment from them, Then you got a payment from your work in a couple weeks could complicate things. Don't you have any wages left from the previous payment?
