Ordering broadband before moving in

The house I'm buying does not have an active phone line but has the line and sockets itself in the house.

Is it possible to order the phone and broadband before moving in? Or how far in advance should I do this so that the line can be activated after moving in?

Ring BT - or whoever - and ask them.

    Yes.
The people who bought my old house set theirs up weeks in advance and my provider told me of their order.

I wish we had ordered in advance because we had to wait the 14 days to cool off.

If I had thought harder about it I would have ordered after exchange to be installed after completion. Not only did we have to cool off, we had to wait for the first available engineer slot.

The earlier the better if you know the date you will move in. For me, we only found out we were completing a week before the date so I ordered cable and it was not available for a month...
To err is human, but it is against company policy.

Depending on the situation it can take up to 3 weeks to get a phone connected and a further week for broadband. At least that was my experience when moving a few years ago. No amount of pleading with BT could change it. So start the process as soon as you are able to proceed.

    Thanks

The solicitors have concluded the missives and the move in date is on the 29th of July so I'll have plenty of time to arrange something.

I'm going in tonight to measure up Some rooms so will mention it to the vendor just to make sure she is ok with it.
