If you're sure that your serial number matches this replacement programme, you're fine.

    Morning OP.

If you carefully place your iMac face down on a soft surface and look at the base the serial number will be located there.

Then head over to: https://checkcoverage.apple.com/gb/en/ and enter the serial number and Captcha information.

IME a couple of years ago my mid-2011 21.5" iMac developed a problem with the LCD; I paid £29 for an engineer's report (at KRCS in Derby) and was told it'd cost around £400 to replace.

I used the then SoGA to argue it should last longer than just under three years and Apple replaced it free of charge.

This 'programme' doesn't seem to have a serial number checker like mine did - so it's simpler for you - if you're sure that your iMac is one of the affected production years, book it in.

    Ok,

So I promised I would follow up on how this went.

Phoned apple and advised them of the situation making them aware that I knew of the defect program from apple. After a few failed troubleshooting steps over the phone an appointment was made to see a "Genius".

Took it to a genius, who run some basic tests with me, all of which failed. He informed me that my machine met the requirements of the apple defect notice, and even though my machine is out of warranty and/or apple care, it would still be covered by consumer law.

Left it with them and picked it up today. Had a receipt for £477 with a discount of £477 applied.

I now have a machine I picked up for a bargain, with a brand new GPU.

    VERY HAPPY!!! :T
