Travel Insurance

Just bought three flights on my credit card for myself and two friends.
We're off to India.
Now before I buy my travel insurance, because I've bought the tickets, do I need to co-ordinate buying travel insurance for the trip as well for the ease of claiming? Or do I need to make sure my travel insurance covers the total cost of all three flights?

You are risking it already by not having your insurance in place (one of you might get run over by a bus this morning!)
Of course you need to ensure the flight costs are covered in full on each person's insurance - otherwise if you cancel you could end up with a loss! (Assuming your credit card "protection" doesn't include travel insurance)
You all need insurance - if you have to cancel the trip, that will be 3 claims for the air fares.0 -
You can buy your travel insurance from anyone you like either before or after buying the tickets or from the airline if they offer it at the time of buying.
Do read reviews though as some companies won't even answer the phone for a claim!
imho the health cover is more important than the cost of flights; you want a company that will deliver when you need them. If it helps, I chose Liverpool Victoria recently as they seem towards the top end of a bad bunch for customer service.0 -
Sorry, not clear.
Everyone needs insurance - quite right.
What I'm asking is, can they claim for their flights if it goes wrong even though I paid for them initially, or do I need to apply on their behalves therefore needing a higher insurance level of cover?
Indeed, medical is forefront of my mind.Tim0 -
They all need to be insured (you can only insure your own journey)
(You may find a group policy covering all 3 is cheaper than 3 separate policies)
But get cover ASAP! (Presumably you are relying on your travelling companions goodwill to reimburse you should something happen to prevent them travelling whilst they have no insurance cover in place)0 -

That's what I needed to know!
We aren't off until late September. I'm paying specifically for one of the parties airfare, but the other is paying for his own.
I'm now covered. They can sort out their own risk level, though the one I've paid for needs help as he's never done anything like this before.Tim0
