AMD 965 3.4ghz vs 8350 4ghz?

Just Wondering if anyone is using the AMD 8350 cpu and might have had the old 965 black edition from (2009) and noticed a difference in performance?
I was thinking of upgrading on a budget and I have done the CPUboss comparison and there doesn't seem a huge difference in these CPU's despite the age gap.
Even some of the intel i5's don't measure up much in performance.
I've never overclocked my 965 but I'm sure I could get it to 4.1ghz based on reviews.
My current setup is:-
Windows 10
8 gig of DDR 3 ram
965 x4 3.4ghz cpu
strix 4gig GTX 960 OC
Some reviews have said the 965 will be slowing down the GFX card but I play games at 1080p not bothered about 4k and I haven't noticed any games run slow yet.
I did notice world of tanks everything maxed out as I could run on some maps at round 25fps at it's slowest but then I'm thinking is this the GFX card or the CPU as this game uses 1 core so maybe OC would help or perhaps it's time I moved to a new CPU.
My budget is around £380'ish and scan do the 8350 OC for around that price with a mobo bundle?

I've just noticed the I5 4690k and that seems a pretty good price in a bundle £249 Mobo and CPU maybe add another £50 for a semi decent fan?
the results look a lot better with that one0 -
My understanding is both AMD & Intel renewing their CPU Q4 16
You should either wait or get intel i5 skylake now. I won't bother FX8350.
For £380, you can get something like this

I ordered this https://www.scan.co.uk/products/3xs-overclocked-bundle-z97-oc10-intel-core-i5-4690k-46ghz-asus-z97-p-8gb-corsair-ddr3-be-quiet-pure-
read up about Skylake cpus and done the 6600k test on cpu boss and there wasn't much in it. I also read that DDR 4 didn't make much difference in gaming0 -
Up to you, that component from scan just not worth the money, IMO0

So you've paid more money for last generation tech rather than consider Cisco001's proposal ?
PS would you like to buy some magic beans ?Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
Why there wasn't much difference with the 2 CPU's infact the 4690k came out better in the long run so newer doesn't always mean better0

If you say so:

Also consider what features you will be missing from your Z97 motherboard compared to Z170.
At the end of the day it's your money and your decision, your decision would not be mine.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
And you notice those component i posted with 16GB RAM and still cheaper than that with scan bundle with 8GB?0
-
I decided to cancel the order in the end. there was a delay on the CPU so decided to cancel and wait for now.
As you said better stuff coming out later in the year. plus found out thankfully my financial situation might change soon as well0
