No, but I have done now! That's pretty cool, but how many other people are missing out because they don't realize that you can type in a field they can't see?
You have been able to do this ever since Windows Vista.

As I've said in the OP, I've come to 8.1 directly from XP.

It still amazes me how someone can get something new and just expect the knowledge to appear in their heads without researching how to use it.
It still amazes me how someone can create something new and just expect the knowledge to appear in the users' heads without telling them how to use it. Or in this case, that the thing even exists. Seriously Rumrat, how would you expect to come across such information? Well for me, the first port of call would be 'Help &Tips', where I would find the following instructions on how to quickly search under 'Basic Actions': Hold the Windows key down whilst pressing 'S'. So, even if I had heard a rumour that a slicker way was available, this would confirm to me that it wasn't
    .
The more I learn about Windows 8, the more I think its presentation has been designed by an idiot.

It's as if the internet had not been invented......
I guess that you just knew how to use XP from day one, so didn't need to check out hints tips and help on the internet or ask questions of Google etc.
Anyway, change to W10, it's better than 8.1, but, not before you read up on it via the internet.;)

  • Is it easily reversible?

Very, although, as you are used to XP, once you've tried it, I doubt you will want to remove it.
