Pet Insurance cancellation

Hi,

I've just had my dogs pet insurance renewal through and as a result of the increase in premium I have cancelled the renewal.
When searching online the same provider offers a cheaper premium for new policies.
Would I be able to apply from scratch and benefit from the reduced rate?

Yes you can. Any pre-exisiting conditions will not be covered though so if you've got a current claim for a condition you will have to start paying for that condition yourself.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Remember there will be an exclusion period at the beginning of the new policy - often 14 days- when any condition arising during that time will not be covered.

You need to overlap the policies to ensure ongoing cover but something occurring during this time may mean having to stay with your current company if you need ongoing cover.
  • I AM APPALLED by M&S insurance!!!! We have been treating our 9 year old labrador Charlie under their standard insurance and have just found out she is not insured for more than £1000 per condition up to 4 separate conditions per year!!! I know its my fault but its costing £403 a year to insure her!! READ THE SMALL PRINT but this is an appalling insurance deal. Very sad but now we will continue to treat Charlie paying it ourselves. Not sure yet how much it will cost but she's worth it. I have no idea what would happen if we couldn't afford her continuing treatment for Indolent Lymphoma!

Sainsburys insurance paid up to the max of £5000 on one condition for our cat when she had a kidney removed last year so look there for pet insurance. Shouldn't that be how it is with all insurances for pets? £1000 is nothing at a vets these days. Now stuck between a rock and a hard place and can't claim anything until renewal in september when we will claim again for her maintenance meds.

    Poor show M & S!!:(

    ANGRY (at myself too)

It is hardly in small print. You have a choice of policies. You need to read the options and know what you are paying for.

You could have had a premier policy with better cover.

    £7,000 in total
    in each period
    of insurance. No
    separate limit on
    each illness or
    injury.

    Other companies offer different cover

You choose which cover you want.

Pet insurance is a business which os required to make a profit. it os not a NHS for pets.

If everybody claimed more than they paid in the company would go down the tubes taking their money with them.

It should be more regarded as a system of paying for treatment on a monthly basis rather than being faced with a sudden large bill.

Some you win and some you lose.

One of my dogs cost Petplan much more than I paid them over the years.

I have claimed well over £3000 for one of my dogs but have paid 5 years insurance at around £200 each year so I am still in credit.

I have paid less each year for my other dog for 11 years and haven't claimed for him. But i want the peace of mind of knowing I will not be faced with a large bill.

I have always opted for £7000 amount of cover.
  • I said I am angry at myself for not reading the small print ie anything other than the main print, but it is still a poor deal from M&S and I hoped to war people that there are much better deals out there where companies off a reasonable cover in light of the cost of vets bill these days.

I had a great deal on my mind when I took this out and so buy in haste repent at leisure but just trying to warn others.
