Mice holes - The bit between carpet and skirting board? HELP

Hello
So this evening I was pleasantly surprised by a mouse of sorts crawling out from underneath my bed, as soon as I noticed it; it shot back under the bed and after searching had vanished.
Not long before I thought I felt something moving in my peripheral vision in the corner, and then that happened.. so I think I saw where it came in and then it found its way under the bed.
Anyway, I noticed there's huge gaps in between the carpet and the skirting board. You can get a finger in there easily, and as most will know mice just need something as wide as a pencil and they're in. So I've basically gone around and taped most of the skirting boards in my room just so i can SLEEP without thinking about them..
What I'm wondering is if anyone knows whats the way to deal with filling the gap without replacing skirting boards or carpets or whatever, I rent a room and will bring this up with my LL but need some suggestions here. My googling has only resulted in things for in between a skirting board and a wood flooring, whereas for me its carpet - what would be the thing called to fill this kind of gap? or best ways to do it?
Help appreciated as i do not wish to sleep in a bedroom with mice letting themselves in and out whenever they feel like it
:o:mad:

Personally I'd be more concerned with getting rid of the mice... if you 'paper over the cracks' you'll still have the little !!!!!!s crapping in your weetabix in the cupboard

ROFL: are you serious? The gap between the skirting and CARPET??Perfection takes time: don't expect miracles in a day0 -
If you pack some wire wool into the joint they won't get through it.
But they will find somewhere else to get in unless you get rid of them0 -
Getting rid of mice is a bigger problem that my landlord will have to look into, I can deal with discovering them in the kitchen but not in my bedroom where I'm trying to sleep.ROFL: are you serious? The gap between the skirting and CARPET??
Yeah exactly the issue is that filling these gaps between a carpet is gonna just mean messy stuff. If you pack some wire wool into the joint they won't get through it.
But they will find somewhere else to get in unless you get rid of them
Thanks that's a good tip as its quite moldable.. I also found these foam wire rod which come in rolls but their main purpose is to then apply actual filler afterwards I think.0 -
i had mice last week, found the holes in the cupboard in the hall, i filled the gap with caulk and put down traps and got these sonar type things that plug in...
not see them since so dont know if it was blocking the entrance or the sonar things? got them in b&qVirtual sealed pot 2019 member #6 :j

We had mice for several years and though the poison down got rid of them, there was always a next batch coming along! Eventually, it was worked out where they were coming in. In our case it was through the ventilator for the Tumble Dryer, a set of floor tiles outside was also helping acting as a convenient ladder to the gap! So tiles were removed, vent/grid fitted over the tuble dryer hole in the wall and posion to sort out the guests still trapped within. So far, fingers crossed we haven't had anymore within the house.
Wire wool will stop the mice coming in at that particular place, but won't address the issue of how they are getting in in the first place or deal with the ones already in the house.0 -
Thanks all. I opted for the wire wool, bought a couple packs for £6 to block the gaps - there was some big 'uns!
I'm mostly just frustrated about them getting in my room, but for the rest I'll just tell the LL (I'm a lodger) and see what he does.0 -
In my experience, if you can stomach it then get some decent mouse traps and bait (muffins worked best for me) and sort the problem altogether. I killed 10 mice in the space of a week once, after which they disappeared.
The mice come in looking for food, so try to make sure there isn't any food left out at all, anywhere. If you have kids this is nigh on impossible, hence the original suggestion.0 -
As above, mice are often a sign of poor hygiene, clean up.
I hope that doesn't offend you but it's true.
Pour poisoned grain down the holes and set traps above, but remove the reason for them seeking your space in preference to others.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
