Timeshare holiday - which company is the best?

If you're certain you want a timeshare (which is madness to my mind - buying untold upside liability with inflated current value), then absolutely buy a private resale.
There is a reason why people are almost giving them away (yes they are frequently losing money to get rid, so you can certainly haggle hard), so paying 'new' retail would be madness. The fact people are trying to give them away tells you that reselling them for a 'return' (which the new sellers try to tempt you with) is somewhat unlikely.
For my money, add up ALL the annual fees plus flights (for the exact dates), and see what kind of holiday rentals you can get for that all around the world. Allow for fee contractual increases and for exchange rate variations, too. Remember you won't have the easy option of 'not this year, we'll go somewhere special next year', you're buying into your tastes and circumstances never changing.0
