What was your first car?

Hi,
Thinking of getting a KA for around £800.
It's all I can really afford. My friends say it is a good idea yet my dad tells me it will be a waste of time and money as it will be full of rust and prob need lots of money being spent on it. My dad would like me to spend around £2000 on a car which is out of my budget. My plan is to ensure that it has a recent MOT and also have an emergency budget for when things go wrong.
What was your first car? If it was a 'cheapie' do you regret it?
Thank you!

The first car I bought myself was an R-reg Hydundai Accent Coupe. It was for sale at a little dealer who made sure all his cars were checked by trading standards, and when we went to look at it we found that it had been owned by someone near where I lived the time, and serviced by the garage we already used and have now used for about 20 years which basically sold it for us.
I loved that car. It only had 18002 miles on it when I bought it, and when I had to get rid of it 4 years ago because the clutch went and it wasn't worth replacing, it still only had 42000 miles on it. I had her a total of 8 years, I was only the second owner and even the garage referred to it as "she" :rotfl:
I now have a 16-year-old Toyota Yaris that I bought from my mum after my dad died.
In terms of the car you're looking at, you should ask a qualified person to give it the once-over if they can. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. Sometimes people just want rid and not all cars hold their value (my Yaris could still go for £1250 in the right market, as small cars are so in-demand)SPCNo.17 #20 (16 £678; 15 £1120.92; 14 £416.53; 13 £191.52; 12 £260.48; 11 £480.95; 10 £682.31; 9 £442.64)0 -

No probs. That first car was £2000 and it was just lucky that she'd been looked after by the same garage we used. Hopefully the one you're looking at will have the service history, etc, available for you to look at.SPCNo.17 #20 (16 £678; 15 £1120.92; 14 £416.53; 13 £191.52; 12 £260.48; 11 £480.95; 10 £682.31; 9 £442.64)0 -
