Mould Problem in Emergency Accommodation

Deanna, I'm a bit confused. When I have hay fever it's itchy eyes, runny nose, sneezing, not a mucus cough. Surely a mucus cough is either an infection or asthma? At least it is for me.0
-
I don't think I ever called it a mucous cough, its repeated coughing. Towards the end of last week he was repeatedly saying he felt sick (nauseous) and was sick with the coughing. This is the point at which I took him to the GP.
Honestly I do promise you that I know what hayfever is.
Because of the possibility of asthma I'm very quick to spot a chest infection (although it only happened once, he did have to be admitted with status asthmaticus, it wasn't pleasant, I only just got him to the hospital on time - something just told me he needed help just as he started getting into serious trouble so I went Doctor searching with him in my arms, I knew he'd suddenly gone downhill but we only just caught it - so I'm careful even though he's 10 now). There's no sign of an infection (no temp) or mucous in his chest, no hollow at the base of his throat (respiratory distress). I made sure I know the signs to look for after that.
I have got him on steroids now, just in case, as well as ventolin and piriton. He is improving, have been able to reduce the frequency of the piriton. No need for the humidifier now. He was getting quite unlike himself which wasn't pleasant for my little bouncy chap - he's brightened up a lot now. Must have been cause I posted on here in a panic lol. You know how life is lol. Maybe I've just finally hit the right medication regime. God knows lol. He's not normally this bad with it.
Windows open, bedroom is drying up nicely.0 -
Coughing so much you vomit sounds much more like asthma than hay fever.
I really don't understand whats going on here at all I'm afraid!
When you say you've got him on steroids, is that what the doctor prescribed when you took him on Friday?0 -
Also my reaction. With symptoms like that, I'd be reaching for salbutamol. I don't quite know how to describe it, but my guess would be that his throat feels sort of paralysed. And that would be the hay fever triggering the asthma.0

Ventolin is salbutamol. He is a lot better thank goodness. His throat isn't paralysed.
He IS a lot better, I keep a very careful eye on him. I am the last person to want harm to come to my darling son. If he had asthma and showed status asthmaticus again, I'd be calling an ambulance like a shot. When it happened when he was a lot smaller, I made damn sure I'd know how to spot it if it ever happened again. If he doesn't respond to treatement, and/or is showing respiratory distress, that's when you call an ambulance.
My point was, he has hayfever, and the treatment regime that was WORKING was making mould problems in the house worse. Now I've found an alternative. And the mould problem can be dealt with.
I am very grateful for all your comments.0 -
Ok, hopefully this will help
Mould Allergy is very like hayfever. Same symptoms - ultimately because it's your eyes/nose/throat reacting to something it doesnt like. Mould allergy tends to cause more chest issues too though
The difference is, Hayfever is pretty harmless. Mould allergy is not. If your child is getting the symptoms regardless of the pollen count, and doesn't get much worse when going outside (maybe even better) my bet is that it's mould allergy.
Ultimately, you can load the poor kid up with Salbutamol, Steroids, etc but nothing will help much as they are still getting exposed to the issue - steroids just 'turn off' this reaction by dampening the immune system, which can cause issues elsewhere.
Please please try to sort the root cause out rather than loading your poor kid up with drugs. Otherwise you'll still be having the same issues down the line.
Get that humidifier turned off, well done for opening the windows, etc - but now focus on sorting it permanently before winter arrives.
Good luck x0 -
The humidifier is OFF. I keep saying this lol. There were damp patches on the wall since I moved in in January (and I did everything I could to stop mould showing), when I posted there were some small mould patches appearing and I KNEW this was bad for asthma, hence why I posted on here, because the one regime that was working was causing the mould which could only make the breathing problems whether due to asthma or hayfever worse. Mould is never good, I truly appreciate that. Why I posted.
The pollen count is still high, apparently my son is not the only one to have problems, but thank god the new humidifier less regime is working. I have been to the GP, I have not just let my son get worse. I am well aware of the problems mould can cause. Surely this can be seen from my posts on here? The mould problem was worse than it was when I moved in due to using the humidifier, hense why I posted. Now with cleaning and keeping windows open the place is drying up and the damp is receeding.
I'm sorry, I know I made a mistake in my first post but I kindof seem to be repeating myself every time I post lolol. I do appreciate your comments but its driving me crazy lol.0
