The current pads I have now are several years old and still as good as new http://www.cheekywipes.com/bundle-special-offers.html

It is the initial outlay cost that puts me off. But I expect if you cost it out over the months/years it works out cheaper. I did actually try sewing my own pads, but so far haven't managed to get them quite right!

I use them and I prefer them as they're better for the environment. I don't find them gross (it's my fluids!) and yes they are more expensive than the superdrug ones but I can reuse them and I'm not being wasteful.

I've bought mine from a lady who makes them in terrific colours/patterns: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/EcoRainbowPads. She can alter ones too (eg make them longer/wider). I've got a few different styles - lighter ones (purple), medium flow ones (blue) and a few night time (red) ones - all in the same colour so I can remember what flow it is :) I honestly love mine.

I rinse them first till the water runs clear and then chuck them in the washing machine with the other clothes - I don't see how they're any different to other dirty underwear (sorry if that's strange to anyone.)

I still love tampons but the amount of waste (eg plastic applicator vs cardboard) and the bleach they put into it scares me a little.

I did try the mooncup but never mastered the technique to putting it in!

But go for it! If I ever have a baby, it'll be in reusable nappies..

I have to ask - what happens when you're out all day? Don't they need to be changed during the day? What about odours? :o

I used to use them too.
As already said, ziplock bags for when you are out, I used a small bucket with lemon juice or bicarb in to dunk them in at home. Personally I rinsed them out day-to-day and then gave them a machine wash at the end of each period.
I found them more comfortable than the usual kind. If I was out for long periods of time - a whole day for example, then I would take disposable as well (I used the free samples!) but could easily manage an ordinary work day / shopping trip or similar.

oh I never knew there was such a thing.

I use tampons but also panty liners, I do always feel bad about the waste when I have to dispose of the liner as half the time it is clean. I would like to buy re usable liners but the disposable ones are so cheap (i buy value) that unfortunately I'd struggle to justify the cost. I will think about buying one every week to spread out the cost, that way eventually I will have enough to move over completely.

I suppose it's akin to using cloth nappies as opposed to disposable ones. More eco-friendly, but more work, in terms of cleaning and drying them.

Me too, much simpler and much less wasteful.
