Reausable sanitary pads

Options
Has anybody used one? What do you think? I've got myself "green" liner pad, came today, need to wash it first before using. Your opinions, please?

Love the idea of being green but ??? there are some things I think I will just have to let go and work extra hard to make up for.

If we think about it: what our great-grandmothers use to do? They had no disposable towels or tampons. My grandma told me she had pieces of fabric just for it, washed and boiled every month.
But any experience with modern pads?

That's why a mentrual period used to called 'the rags' in some parts of the country.

No personal experience of using them but there are websites where the modern versions are discussed. There used to be a thread on here about mooncups - have you tried one of those?

But presumably you wouldn't throw away a pair of knickers if you'd had an accident?

I try to be as green as I can and would never be profligate, but resusable sanitary pads - no way! A tampon is not that big, anyway.

We have a lot of choice and I doubt reusable pads will replace modern pads in any great numbers here but they are important in less developed countries.

Girls from poorer families in Africa lose a lot of days at school because they can't afford pads and have to take time off every month during their periods. There are charities that are providing reusable pads to stop these absences - a very good cause to donate to.

I have used a moon cup and reusable pads for years. Much more eco friendly , cheaper than disposable and for those who have very heavy periods much more reliable together than disposables.

An old ice cream plastic box in the bathroom to store rinsed out pads before washing and a zip up bag for when you are out and it is no bother.

The current pads I have now are several years old and still as good as new http://www.cheekywipes.com/bundle-special-offers.html

Folded microfibre cloths are just as good if not better if you have heavy periods.
