If you book early you'll have far more choice regarding destination and accommodation, often more important than cost.

Exactly, and the choices are getting less as the world changes..

Although fine for many I know, personally, Turkey, Tunisia, Egypt, Spain less attractive etc are all off the menu. Greece should be OK until at least after next summer before it crashes again big time.

I booked this summers holiday (August) last September, even then it was too late to rebook the place I was actually staying in at the time, it was sold out! and had to find an alternative.

I have returned today from our annual two weeks in Ibiza and will be booking for 2017 this week. Thomson are putting on a lot more flights next year, and everyone I spoke to said that Ibiza was much busier this year and it's only June. Mind you, we always book at least ten months in advance, as the prices are usually better.

Sometimes I book a year in advance and sometimes I wait till six weeks before travelling. I have always been happy with the price and the accommodation, been to Turkey last two years and I am back there on the 4th of July. Stunning place and the most friendly people.
  • It depends where you want to go to. Spain, The Balearics and Canaries, particularly the Canaries, are extremely busy due to the perceived problems in Egypt and Turkey, and of course Tunisia, and have a bed shortage this year. There's already loads of extra flights operating to those destinations and unless things change rapidly I can't see next summer being any different, so prices will be higher.
