Faulty Motorola Smartwatch bought in USA

I bought a Motorola smartwatch on holiday in New York in October, I gave it to him for Christmas. After 3 months of wear the poor quality plastic fitting where the strap joins the watch broke rendering the watch unwearable. We contacted the store we bought it from and I have been through the Better Business Bureau NY and got this response from the retailer -
"The purchase was made 28/10/2016 B&H have a 30 day return policy which is printed on receipt. After-sale contact was made 4/4/2016 which past our return policy. It is impossible to know why the watch broke owner error or mishandling must be considered, therefore the watch is not eligible for return refund or store credit.
If the damage is eligible for repair under warranty the customer should contact the manufacturer -Motorola."

I contacted Motorola twice and was told because the watch was bought in the US it cannot be repaired or replaced in Europe?! I do not understand this system of a global company? The watch is still under warranty?
Any ideas on how to resolve this issue- or let it be known throughout the land that Motorola products should not be bought outside Europe! Or at all, as their customer service/satistaction is non-existent!

Well what does the warranty say? From what Motorola have told you it's probably limited to claims within the USA, which they are perfectly entitled to do. If you want UK levels of consumer protection, buy in the UK.

According to the warranty for their smartwatches (taken from their US site)
This Limited Warranty is personal to you and not transferable. Claims under this Limited Warranty may only be made in the country of purchase.
So you need to go back to the States to claim under warranty.
