Travel insurance for child travelling with grandparents?

Hi, I'm looking for a recommendation for travel insurance for my grandson aged 6yrs, who is traveling with us next month to visit family in Greece.

The main concern is medical cover in the event of illness or accident.

My husband and I already have annual travel insurance with BUPA owing to us both having pre-existing medical conditions, but BUPA cannot add our grandson to our policy and does not offer stand alone policies for children.

I have found two companies which offer stand alone travel insurance for a child (Alpha Travel and Flexicover) but on doing further research, both get dire reviews in the event of a claim.

We can't be the only oldies who travel with grandchildren, so I'm hoping that someone here will be able to recommend a suitable insurer from experience.

Thanks

Dx

Have you investigated whether your grandson's parents could take out a family policy that would cover the child if travelling with you? I'm clutching at straws a bit but you don't know unless you ask.

    It's a good call.

If either parent has a Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account the child is covered for travel with other adults.

I assume other providers may also include such cover.

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately his mum doesn't have a bank account that provides cover for him travelling with other people.

We would be happy to purchase an annual travel policy for the family if it covers him to travel separately with us - but after a couple of hours searching, I have drawn a blank - all the policies I have found state that children under 16 are only covered if travelling with the policy holder.

    Any other suggestions?

I am sure we cannot be on our own with this problem! :o

Amex travel insurance will cover kids, you dont need an Amex card to take it out.

The Post Office will insure under 18s travelling alone. I've used them several times for DS and friends travelling with us. Fortunately, have never needed to claim but according to their website they were voted best travel insurance provider in the 2015 British Travel Awards.

Two weeks in Europe this summer would cost from £10. There's £3.98 on single trip insurance on Topcashback.
