Ombudsman

Hi. I had my claim rejected by Barclays in April however referred it to the ombudsman. Had a letter today to say that the ombudsman agree that I have a case and that Barclays need to review my claim. Does anyone know what happens next? Can Barclays still reject my claim?

Barclays will review the claim and make their case as to why they rejected it to the Ombudsman (well adjudicator at this stage). You can provide additional information as well at this stage if you want to. The adjudicator will then make a decision either way based on the evidence provided. This could take a while depending on how busy the currently are. Once the adjudicator has made a decision, you / Barclays can then either accept the decision or refer it to an Ombudsman. The Ombudsman will then look at it and then make a final decision that both you and Barclay will then have to agree with.

It could take anything up to a couple of years.

Very few cases are taking that long these days....
  • I found the Ombusdman prompted a very speedy resolution. Within 1 month of the Ombudsman receiving my completed complaint forms, they had contacted Barclays who then decided that they preferred to settle after all, rather than have the Ombudsman investigate my claim.
