National Grid 'should be broken up' MP's say.
The UK's energy system needs major reform, with the National Grid replaced by a US-style independent operator, a committee of MPs has said.

What more companies, more fat cat boards, more costs to the consumer, more profits to be made and sent offshore to dodge taxes.
Less accountability to the consumer no doubt.
The US system may make some sense in a very large country which is a federation of independent states which have a major dislike for anything governed national. But that is not the UK which is geographically minute compared to even some of the individual states.
Total area of UK 243,610 km²
Total area of California 423,970 km²
So California having it's own grid is good as it remains under the legal control of the state and can be made accountable to the state. But the UK, at half its size, does not need to break up the National Grid.
There are zero benefits to this stupid idea.0 -
We already have 3 electricity grid operators and several for gas so why the need for more ?0

Yeh - let's break up the national grid so that rather than being able to plan and update infrastructure at a national level, we allow companies to concentrate on their little piece of the pie, putting in as much money (or rather as little money) as they deem fit (for their profits).0
