O/S Daily Thread for Friday 17th June

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning all

Dumpling my diabetes nurse is about 6 years behind on current recommendations, well done and stick to what works for you.

We had a beautiful thunder storm yesterday round 6ish, and it hammered down.

Four more car loads of stuff moved yesterday, next I need to phone the charities that accept furniture to arrange a collection, 2 bookshelves, 2 wall units, an office chair, a bedside unit, a blanket box, 2 wicker units and a partridge in a pear tree.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Good morning everyone.

    Thanks for the thread HH.

Blue sky with fluffy white clouds again. I hope it bodes well for the day.

Yesterday was filled with driving a nice woman with a broken ankle to get her 'stookie' off and a leg support on. When I got back I sorted out some students.

The news of the murdered MP was extremely shocking, it's hard to credit.

Today I'm off to the docs this morning as the Oz coroner recommended that close family members get checked for heart disease. Whilst my nephew didn't die from it he had very advanced heart disease for his age and my brother (his father) died from it aged 57 years. Both were extremely heavy smokers and I've never smoked. All three other boys are being checked out too.

Then I'm off to Glasgow for an overnight visit. Mum needs some things sorting out so I'll whizz down.

I wish everyone sunny times and a happy Friday.
  • Morning all and thanks for starting off HESTER. A drab morning here so far and not forecast to improve. Amazingly yesterday, despite no sun all day, I managed to get three wash loads dry outside. Now I have a clothes mountain waiting to be tackled sometime.

We have another funeral today. SIL's dad who died last week. Bless him, a lovely old chap. We are beginning to feel like professional mourners as this is Mr TA's 3rd funeral in 10 days and my 2nd in 7 days. Of course there will be the usual family get together afterwards in the club most of them frequent and it's that part I am not looking forward to. They never know when to call it a day and no-one wants to be the first to quit.

The DGDs are all still fast asleep so peace reigns for now. There will be the usual mayhem when they get up and, once they have gone to school, it will be a right old rush getting ourselves ready and out of the door by 9.30 for the funeral.

DD's bf went to France on Tuesday, armed with tickets for quite a lot of the football matches. He's a sensible lad and he and his friends are just there to enjoy the football and the atmosphere but DD is so worried he'll end up caught up in the trouble that seems to surround our team. He is under instructions to give her constant updates and so far he hasn't seen any trouble thankfully.

Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. DUMPLING don't get despondent you have been doing so well and have had good advice from the diabetics amongst us who have been doing low-carb. Take care all xxx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a damp and drizzly morning here, hubby has just left for work and the girls are getting ready for school. It's DD16's last official day of school today so she baked a huge batch of brownies and cookies to take in to school to share with her friends.

Hubby is on a half day so that will be nice to see him home early. My eldest DD and partner are going to Kent for the weekend. They are going to drop their key off in a minute so that DD16 can cat sit and feed their fish. I really hope they manage to relax and have a nice time.

I am going to make chicken tikka for dinner tonight. I will have salad with mine and the family will have savoury rice as well. I will marinate the chicken in a minute once the girls have left and I get some peace and quiet.

Thank you for all the well wishes and advice, I really appreciate them. I still feel a bit upset to be honest but I am going to carry on low carbing as if nothing else it helps my tummy issues. I need to make an appointment with my GP early next week as I want to talk about maybe taking some meds for my diabetes as I am still struggling to get my blood sugar into single figures even when I cut right back on the carbs and sugar.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

dumpling - You are doing fine, we know you can prove that nurse wrong!

Much brighter here, it rained most of yesterday. The washing is on the line, I'll not be home till about 9 so hope it stays nice.

Going to DDs after work to let the glazier in who is going to fix her window, I'm sure she will be happy to have the big board off, it seems so dark in there. She has invited me tea but I have to bring my own, her freezer seems to be a bit bare! I will get some chicken on the way.

Glad it's Friday, I get quite tired by the end of the week and quite excited because I finish at 3 - today I am going to leave on time, I'm usually there until about half past.

Have a good day. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready to go to work. DS2 still in his pit, but I've heard movement from his room, he'll probably go back to sleep.

Now light here but very cloudy and overcast, looks like rain any minute. We had a reasonable day yesterday then had a heavy downpour thunder and lightning later afternoon.

Dinner last night was hot new minted potatoes, hot quiche lorraine, gammon, boiled egg, salad, cheese, coleslaw/pasta salad. Tonight will be lasagne and chips for the menfolk, I'll probably have a jacket potato and salad.

Wasn't particularly productive yesterday, I have a wound on my back that I'm receiving treatment for at the docs, yesterday had to go back to see the nurse to get dressing changed, she decided to use a different type of dressing and medicated cream. Got up this morning and I'm now in agony, skin is burning and covered head to foot in a raised angry rash, that looks like whelts covering my body, my whole skin surface feels like its alive - suffice to say I'm having an allergic reaction to either the dressing or medicated cream, back to the docs this morning, I have already removed the dressing and had a cool shower to try make myself more comfortable, I've searched my medicine box but don't have any piriton.

I have all the usual "to do" list - I'll have to see how I feel and what the docs say, I'm quite prepared for them to say either this rash is nothing to do with what nurse did yesterday or there's no appointments available, I'm hoping not as I don't want to stay like this all weekend. Although I do have another appointment on Monday - but I'm sure if I keep using something that's quite clearly making me ill, I won't be a very well person by then!

Will just potter along, we're supposed to be getting items ready for the Yard sale tomorrow, we haven't really prepared very well this year and if I'm honest I'm not really that bothered, but I know that's because I don't feel very well, I'll see how I go. I do need to go to the SM as the fridge and cupboards are becoming bare, and I haven't got Fathers day cards and gifts organised as yet.

    Have good Fridays' everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Bit dull here and looks like it might rain, we have had rain most of the week.

Off to work for me but its Friday, we have easy clients in today and tonight is wine and takeaway night :T

Little Evie has just come running into the lounge with a whole tube of toothpaste (still in box) in her mouth :rotfl:I had put it on the stairs to take up but she spotted it first, she had another pair of my socks yesterday and two pairs of dd's slippers were found around the house and garden !! she is such a funny little girl !

I am hoping work will be quiet today could do with a little office time, but we will see.

    Have good days all xx

    Hi everyone,

dumpling - I echo what others have said. You are making good progress so carry on doing what you're doing. Not sure whether you are still attending SW but I have seen people in my group transformed and health issues improve from doing the plan. X
TA - I hope today goes well X
Gers - hope the appointment goes well and safe travels X
nmlc - that sounds horrendous. Hope you can get to see someone and have it sorted out X

Had dinner out with a friend last night. It was lovely to catch up, but a bit of a late night - almost midnight when I got home. This morning I'm at the church for a couple of hours then off to collect my mum who will stay over until Sunday. DH is taking the scouts away this weekend, DD is on a sleepover tonight and DS1 has work tomorrow, so a lot of running around.

Hope you all have a good day

    Good morning :)

TA - I hope the funeral goes well for you today and it's not a long one.
Dumpling - An old friend of mine had diabetes and was largely able to control it with diet. I can't remember for the life of me what that entailed though, but it shows it can be done.
nmlc - all the best today.

After work today it'll be a chilled out one with my GF. Not sure what we'll do. Looking forward to the weekend though so we can truly relax after whats been a stressful week.

I'm going to make it a productive weekend, including some batch cooking but not sure what that'll be yet. Anyways, best be off.

    Have a lovely Friday.
