2 questions about Google Drive & itunes

I recently started using this and I'm not sure about the difference between the desktop folder and the web version. I only intended to upload/sync my photos/videos and documents but it uploaded my music (itunes and uploaded CD's) as well. I have now set it to only sync photos/documents but it is still trying to sync music and I don't know why.
1. I tried to move the music from the google drive folder on the desktop to the recycle bin but it won't let me do so. It asks for administrator permission. Why is this? I am just trying to clear space. If i try to do it on the web, it does allow me to move the music folder to the trash. I haven't tried to actually delete it completely so don't know if it will let me.
2. I am deleting the music on the basis that I would have back up in iTunes if my laptop were to die. Is this mistaken or does it usually work? I haven't had to try it yet.
I am going to go through my photos, documents and videos and get rid of any which I don't need to save space.
Thanks for any advice

I can't help re the situation about question 1 nor do I understand why it's trying to upload your music.
Re 2 as long as you don't delete the music in iTunes you will be fine.
Is google music not trying to upload your music.0 -
i would use google photos to back up photos and videos and maybe just use google drive/onedrive to back up docs. continue with itunes for music if that what you prefer
if you can't clear google drive just uninstall and reinstall after making sure you have copies of files
don't rely on just cloud storage for music. you still need a copy in the home either on laptop, external drive or usb"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -

I previously had an external hard drive (which has now failed). I faithfully thought I had backed up to it (using Windows back up to include folders and documents). However when I last accessed it, it didn't appear to have saved anything for some time. I was going to buy a new hard drive but my IT colleague recommended Google Drive instead.0 -
As others have posted, don't rely on the cloud - especially for large amounts of data where it could conceivably be a royal pain in the butt if you needed to download/upload it all again.
A USB stick may be more reliable and convenient than a HDD for backing up and storing your music - you can get a 128gb drive for 20 quid on amazon these days.0 -
re the Music. I have iTunes on the desktop and laptop but also have Google Play for music. This backs up any music I put into iTunes music folder. It's a separate app from Google drive. It can be set to upload any music folder.
The upside of Google play is that my music is available everywhere and on everything (phone, laptop, PC and Tablet). I also used Googles Chromecast audio to enable wireless music throughout the house (Sonos style but for a fraction the price) using my existing stereo's.
IMO there is no downside to storing extra copies of your music with google, even if you don't access it regularly.
Re your problem OP. Check down in your notification area and see if there is Google play icon lurking in the hidden bit. If so either customise it to work how you want or uninstall it.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Thanks for all your suggestions/recommendations. I have now done the following:
Installed Google Photos and uploaded all my photos there.
Removed photos from Google Drive which has reduced my space used to 6GB.
I will also install Google Play for the music and buy a suitable USB for external back up.0 -

I accidentally deleted a few of my uploaded google photos because I thought it had duplicated a folder. Is there any easy way that I can instruct Google photos to upload the missing photos again? I did upload 1 of the missing folders to Google Drive and then transfer it to Google photos but i suspect that this isn't the best way.0 -
if you deleted them via google photos they should be in your bin (trash) for 60 days. you can undelete from there.
try to keep folder structures simple on laptop/storage device. i just have one folder called 'memories' and point google photos to that folder. it has 2 x sub folders videos and photos and each of those 2 folders are broken down into years.
if you need to search for any photos just search via google photos.
you can change google photos settings from icon in system tray (bottom right of screen). just right click > settings"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0
