Hi Guys,
Here is what I have in mind,
Take the rj11 which is coming from street post to loft and then have a junction box so that internet can be connected in the loft .
another cable taken from that and moved to basemenet through extisting rj45 cabling I have in place . in basement I need some sort of switch or hub so that i can plug rj45 to rj45 in the patch panel which is cabled all around the house
then at any point which I have rj45, I can use rj11 to rj45 to connect it from wall socket to phone
is there anything such as switch or hub for rj11 ?
thanks

Just use some spare ports on the patch panel (or fit a couple of 4-way wall plates with RJ45 jacks) and parallel up all the terminals like for like, so terminal 1 on the first jack goes to terminal 1 on the second jack etc). Then patch the phones in.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

The words you are looking for is 'Structured Cabling'
You do also get rj11 to rj45 cable adapters which offices use, because they often have structured cabling system, and these cables can be isolated and can carry other signals besides ethernet, so you can get converters that convert rj45 to rj11 and rj45 to bt pstn socket. These converters only convert plug types, and they do not convert electronic signals.
No you can not plug your phone line directly into a network switch either. You can plug that 45v into a ADSL modem/router, and beforehand obviously split it via a filter.
We at work once bought quit a few £150 cable testers. Because the dual wall sockets were the same, staff sometimes switched the phone and network cables around when something did not work, which when plugging our testers in, the phone network fried the nic tester. New £400 tester were the answer.0 -
I'm pretty much certain you won't find a switch or hub for RJ11 because phone lines don't need that. Phone extension wiring is just done as either a star or direct link from socket to socket with all phones connected in parallel. I'd advise against mixing your phone and ethernet wiring in any way as the chances are you will cause interference to the ADSL signal from crosstalk and lower the sync speed.
IMO the easiest way to have a phone you can use in any room is by buying a DECT phone. The best place to connect the ADSL router/modem is at the master socket and it is better to have no phone extensions or if they can't be avoided read up on isolating the bell wire.0 -
So u are saying a twisted pair cat 5e is not good for adsl and use cat3?0
-
No. You can use cat5e cable to carry phone signals OK. The proper CW1308 cable does have a slightly different spec but it's unlikely to matter.
What I am saying is don't bring live ethernet cabling in close proximity to an ADSL pair over any appreciable length or on the same patch panel. The signal level of ethernet cabling is way way higher than the ADSL signal by the time it reaches your house and any crosstalk is likely to screw up your ADSL sync speed.0 -
So how far should I keep the rj45 and adsl line apart? 5cm ?0
-
Depends on the run length I guess.
I wouldn't allow the ADSL pair to go beyond the master socket personally and would filter there. What you do with the filtered phone line (ie isolated from the ADSL signal by a filter) after that is pretty much irrelevant. Ethernet won't have any impact on the analogue phone signal. Many offices carry both 100Mbps ethernet and phone within the same cable.

Take a look at filtered faceplates.0
