Please keep an eye on your plated elbow though, bugs can lie dormant for years in the body, OH had trouble over a period of more than 30 years (hopefully sorted now though )

I think you should seek urgent advice. A friend had a serious problem that took 2 years to recover from after a false knee became infected.
