    Afternoon all.
    Lovely visit with Greenfinger yesterday. We sat in the garden and had coffee, cake and a catchup. She brought me a beautiful tree lily, something I've never grown before, so kind of her. I'm so lucky to have such lovely friends.
    Mum brought round a plant too, as a peace offering/apology. I accepted gracefully and all is well. I hate falling out with her, luckily it's not often, but sometimes, under provocation, I fail to hold my tongue:(
    Off for a read back now, but thought I'd show you my big black pussit. She has bowls of water everywhere, but prefers it from the watering can filled from the waterbutt.

    Hello.
    I'm going to upset people:rotfl:.
    I've just managed to listen to that Justin Bieber song - or actually I haven't as I found it so 'unbearable' that I didn't even manage to get all the way through:rotfl::rotfl:, which tells you something - and, yes, no surprise to me whatsoever and entirely predictable, I don't really like it.

    I honestly don't choose to not like something simply because it is popular, some people think I do but I listen (or try to - I didn't even manage that on this occasion) to a song and, if I like it, I do - although it's certainly possible to 'go off' songs you liked (but obviously not really really loved - I don't think I've ever really "loved" a song that radio has played again and again to be honest, just "liked" - and then it becomes overplayed so I dislike it - but after a fair number of years, it's certainly possible to like it once again but just not suitable for me for constant replaying) - and, if I don't like a song, on first hearing of it, then I don't like it.

    It's not even a "grows on you" situation. If I don't like something, then I don't like it and the more it is played, the more I dislike it.

    Now people will dislike this, as lots of people will like the song - it is, after all, "popular". I'm perhaps tearing into a "sacred cow". Although hopefully not "tearing into" it too much, as I'm hopefully not being too harsh.

    From the moment I put the song on - I do try to give them a chance to see if I like something 'new' - I gave them numerous chances though, for four years at the end of the 1990s, and eventually liked nothing at all. They're just incapable of producing a song I like - they've obviously got the sound that I don't like, that is immediately the formula for the past eighteen years or so for a successful song.

    I put the song on and, from the beginning, I didn't like his vocals. I think it's because it's got too much emotion for me, a kind of emotion that I don't understand, and I just find it sickening. I know that's a strong word, but it was rather appalling to me. Sometimes you can have too much emotion and then be sickeningly sweet and just come across as nasty rather than nice. It's just like that.

    I'm sure he's singing about love or something (indeed that's in the title of the song) that I just don't understand. I have no clue what he was singing and don't even remember any of it now. Thankfully:rotfl: as the whole "problem" is that these sorts of songs tended to get stuck in my head and go round and round, annoying me, as I don't really like them. That's the problem - unwarrantably catchy. I was so much better the moment I switched off the radio entirely and chose my own, completely different playlist and only music I like. I felt drained and drawn out immediately prior to then but, once I managed to shut it all out, by being at home and never encountering any of it, I felt really much happier. My songs, to me, are generally actually happy and uplifting.

    I managed to last 35 seconds with the Justin Bieber song before I had to switch it off:rotfl:, as it just got too much for me. There was nothing offensive as such - just not possible to keep listening to the song because I didn't like how it sounded. I'm sure I would understand it if I saw its printed lyrics and read those - though, fortunately, I would never have to hear the actual song as I wouldn't want it in my head. So, the printed lyrics would tell the "story" to me, but, hearing the song, I just get nothing at all from it and I've no idea what the song is about - I couldn't even bear to keep listening to it - although I know the title. Is that all there is to it? Is it just above love? Or is there some deeper meaning that I just don't get at all?

    I don't really like the song. I would grow to extremely dislike the song if I were still only listening to the radio. However, there is so much on there that I don't like, that I find it impossible to listen to it and have to hear only songs that I play myself from elsewhere.

    Meanwhile, I've discovered, it's not necessarily that songs become worse with repetition (and, after all, with autism and repetitive behaviour and interests surely that should suit me more than most people?:think:) - there's actually one song that I seem to be playing every day and have played it every day for the last month or so, in fact I can just leave that on repeatedly and play it for over an hour. I think that song, like quite a lot of my songs, has complex arrangements in it, that means you hear it differently (or can do) each time. There's bits of sound underneath the sound and, actually, I put it on again today and, for the first time ever - it was released in 1998 and I've had the radio version that this has now happened to me on for several years - but, for the first time, I actually heard something near the end of that song that I have never heard it in before and it's just really good. You can start off at one place in it and go to a different chord or tone each time of listening. There's literally thousands of different ways to hum that one three-minute song as it's got tunes on top of tunes on top of tunes and you can select and go from and back to any of those tunes at those moments and various changes in the song.

    What I think I'll do is go and listen to it really closely indeed (you know I really love detail) and see if I can hear something else in it. I am sure I will - and it'll be a great experience. I never thought I would feel this about music but I think it'll really enjoy its emotion. I think it reached no 58 in the charts and I'm sure that's probably exactly right:rotfl:. (In fact it was re-released a few years later and got to the Top 40 - obviously the extreme low end for a single week, but it's the 1998 original that I like - or actually, in some aspects, the radio version that has more in it at one point that I like.)

    I think it's probably not got emotion for most people. But, for me, it's happy and uplifting - and you can sing along in a natural way, at the right speed, rather than them doing these songs that I'm just singing at a different pace or can't possibly sing the way they do. Perhaps people don't sing along with Justin Bieber, perhaps most people get the emotion. For me, though, it's the very problem about the song.

    :rotfl::rotfl: It's not a problem as I can just not play it (problem solved:D) - indeed my inability to stand it is so much that I can't even play the whole song without finding it so - I was going to say irritating but it's not even fully that - just so - boring perhaps - that I can't physically bear to keep it on and, after 35 seconds, I was tired of it so much I switched it off. Thanks anyway, it was a nice attempt to introduce me to something I might like, but was almost inevitably doomed to failure in that as, indeed, I don't. I guess I don't really like 21st century pop music:rotfl::rotfl:.

    The thing also is - from my hearing - it's not as if I can listen to the song more in order to try to understand it. Unlike 'my own' songs, where listening gives me more, and sometimes things I've not heard in the song before (obviously they were always there as it's a replaying of the same recording again) - the closer I try to listen to pop music, the more I dislike it. It's one of those songs I think though that could just drone on in the background to utter boredom in public and me ignoring it. It's not grossly irritating, it's just not even possible to listen to it (obviously it is possible to do that, as some people - most people? - somehow(:laugh:) manage to do so without any problem) and I can't get that by trying to listen to it more closely, as there's just nothing in it that I like that much at all and the more I try to 'get' it, the more offputting the song is. It's not the message to which I object. I have got no message at all from the first 35 seconds, which was all I managed to hear.

    Really I ought to become a record company employee. I'd be extremely useful indeed and possibly the best asset to them, being able to tell them precisely what is going to sell and be popular simply by my immediate dislike of it:rotfl:. A dislike that I have on first hearing before anything has even become popular.

    Maybe I am denying myself from hearing some really "great" music like Justin Bieber. But, for me, it's not even "great". I think all the pop songs have been mediocre at best:rotfl::rotfl:. It's not even a question of talent or otherwise: it's a question simply about being able to listen to a song, and I physically cannot.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Justin Bieber - "unlistenable":rotfl::rotfl:.

    So, I'm sure, now albeit summed up in that one intended as slightly cheeky word, even though it's true:eek::rotfl: (and also isn't true - since other people, somehow:D, can listen to it), this is a full and detailed analysis of the Justin Bieber song from my POV. But I think the 'problem' probably is that it's not intended to be this way - it's not meant to be listened to seriously and not supposed to be analysed like this. It's not something to analyse - it's just a fun pop song. Except, for me, it isn't.

    I'm just very old:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. Old and whiney:rotfl:.
