Mr TS got a phone call from his aunt week or so ago to tell us the box of Thorntons mints she took away that I gave her for Christmas had gone mouldy, real white furry stuff. She rang to say just in case I had more out in my garage room. But of course since "mould gate" I have not kept any out there.

Thing is I actually bought and wrapped the ones I gave her and rest of family on Boxing day so they were not stashed at all. And she had put them under her bed until June so no wonder. :eek:

I did still have one box left BB jul which I was saving for our anniversary next week. Mr TS felt the need to open them to check and they have been totally demolished now. :EasterBun

Usually make my own but as on holiday (and still 39c) thought I'd get ready made ones. The hamburgers that I bought this morning were so expensive that they were security tagged. Set the alarm off and had to show the receipt to the cashier that I'd just paid and to the security guard. Others were amused when the cashier kept waving the hamburgers at the alarm and it wouldn't stop ringing. Ditto my empty Shaws bag - thanks QoC x
Hopefully, we will enjoy them tonight.

I've added a bit about a Green Day song "American Idiot" at the end of my second of the two posts now. About how the radio version contained two parts of mild offence that equalled serious offence as opposed to the original that I reckon might have been one serious offence had I experienced that. In other words, amounted to the same thing - but had two offensive elements in the radio edit instead of the one of the original (which I didn't hear at the time).

That Green Day radio song has caught me on a number of occasions on the TV at home, when my father was in the room - and yet again the TV always put on by someone else, my brother, and not me - and on each occasion caused me offence:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.

I know - it's so funny now, as it was quite a while ago, and now out of the situation right at the moment and rationality looking at the problems I've had. But I would never want to hear the censored song ever again when my father was around once more, as it does make me uncomfortable in that context.

It's all offence as a matter of fact and not opinion, as it did make me uncomfortable. Though obviously it's also based on my own perceptions and to some extent my own views, but then again, that's no get out as all offence to anyone is caused based on similar to that. Would that we could always think that other people or things weren't upsetting us. I may at that time have been okay had it been a bleeped version and carried some of the impact (together with the funny nature) of the original, as bleeping was always okay and played on the TV by my parents when I was a child in their presence, so I never had a problem with it growing up; however this version was not bleeped and was something worse* that was not put on by my parents when I was a child (I'm rationalising it again - I don't know, I just know I was uncomfortable with the radio.television version of Green Day at home with my father around - and one of the original words was changed into seeming to be of a word that caused me discomfort in that form there).

*It was like blanked or signature sound material instead, that removed the impact (of it being potentially funny) and, instead, just left me uncomfortable in offence. So, it didn't have the impact anymore. Instead, it seems (trying to look at myself from outside of myself) it had a different impact, which was far worse(:rotfl:). It was lessened compared to the original - the real word use anyway. But still offensive, so no good. And wasn't lessened overall but was the same, since the radio edit managed to edit in another material that caused me lessened offence as that seemed to be a derivative of the same word but later turned out to be another word and one that would not have given me any problem, unlike the one that I got from this radio version, put in my mind, thought that it was, and thought that it meant. I accept I didn't understand it correctly at the time. However, at the time, I thought that I had and that's how it came across. If anything, offence through misunderstanding (by definition since I did not understand what was in fact the true lyric and thought my understanding was my misunderstanding+ in which I thought that I did have the lyric correctly and thought that that was what it meant - and it came across as that and I thought that it was).

+Which, significantly, I did not know that it was - otherwise I would not have misunderstood and would not have been caused offence through that. Even now though, even now I know what the real word there is and is not what I thought, which now defeats the censorship, I still wouldn't want the part-blanked material there again, because of what it is associated with for me - I'm sure it'll still come across like it did before even though I now know that it isn't - and others around me might be thinking it was the "more severe" word and to my discomfort. I think the radio version, even now I know the real word there, will inexorably remind me of the 'severe' word for me anytime I might hear it again in future before I even then get to thinking of the, for me, inoffensive word that it originally was. So, it's removed the original word and put an implication into the song that suggests worse and now may as well be the sometimes offensive word for me in place of the original word. I'm sure that, because it's 'worse', it may well therefore be better in some situations (such as entire solitary listening alone at home).

These words are hilarious and funny (in some situations) in proportion to how "offensive" (in other situations) they are. However, research suggests that this view tends to be a male view. And I'm a man, so I suspect that's why I think it. For women, the research suggests, the more "offensive" is simply more offensive. I think I'll go and listen to the radio version of Green Day now, here in my home safely, and see if it gets rid of the unwanted inoffensive material and comes across worse:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. (Of course, I can certainly hold the view that something I might want in one place (home) I might definitely not want in another because in that other it causes me actual offence. And just because something is inoffensive to me when listened to in one place (entirely alone), because no word at all in the English language is in itself offensive to me under all circumstances (I've heard them all before), does not mean that myself - or others - could not be caused offence by it elsewhere. Otherwise, if it did not cause anyone else at all offence, then we should all start using all these words absolutely freely as there would no longer be any need not to do so. I do not think that we are at that point in our society and don't think that anyone else believes that either, other than a very tiny minority of deluded or deviant people whose view on the matter can be disregarded.)

And yet research seems to show that 92% of adults are okay with swearing in an all adult environment, so I also don't know why we are being "held hostile" and restricted in what we say by a tiny minority of people. So does that mean we now have a nine in ten chance of not causing offence?:think: So does that mean we should now go and say it in front of people and apologise if we get the one in ten?:think::think: (I could not even bring myself to do so, whether one in ten, three in ten or not:rotfl:. Yet other people - strangers - on the street around me are doing so every time I go out - and causing me no problem at all by doing so (indeed, to some extent, I'm actually liking it:eek::rotfl:). But it's not being shouted out loud across a street for all to hear but, if elderly people are around, and I hear some young friends talking to each other, and think they might not watch their mouth nearly enough, sometimes I feel uncomfortable:rotfl::rotfl:. Oh dear, straight back again, to the discomfort because of the taboo. That said, I've more often had elderly people cause me discomfort - not very often but very rarely - by using the word "bloody" in front of young children present. Even though, by now, I don't think "bloody" is a swearword anymore and is now daytime TV material that doesn't seem subject to any restriction these days, as well as permitted on this website. So, it isn't a swearword, except that... if on rare occasions it makes me a little uncomfortable, then I suppose it is if "swearing" is defined as "words that sometimes have a physical impact on someone". I don't know. I've no idea what "swearing" is or isn't anymore:rotfl::rotfl:, or what point in our society we have reached at which I can say that this no longer is one - and our dictionaries are in disagreement over their markings these days too, maybe being a reflection of the opinion of the lexicographer that contributed to them. I'm identifying, I think, a language change and, with changes in meanings, usage and definitions and acceptabilities or not, it's difficult to say at precisely which point we are at.)

I'm thinking that "the F word" is becoming more acceptable these days - and I'm in support of it becoming so (but that's due to my age) and I think it's think it's stupid that we don't allow it everywhere. In some situations, it's gone past the point at which it would be offensive and, for me now, it seems like the 'censored' versions are outstripping it in terms of offence:eek::rotfl:. Actually dragging me back to it in a (past? not quite yet past?) previous offensive context and making me uncomfortable by doing so. I think an example of the euphemism treadmill and the dysphemism treadmill at the same time (and perhaps I'm more advanced on both of them than general society is). However, for me, what years later has turned out to be the backmasked version of "the S word" was never a euphemism at any point as, from the outset in the mid 1990s, I switched that off the radio whenever my parents were around. So, that reversed sound material has always been offensive to me in some contexts and was never euphemistic.
