Morning all
A quick question - possibly for the elite landlords.
On our Freecycle group we often - weekly almost have messages like this
"wanted: washer, dryer, cooker, fridgefreezer, dishwasher, tv, wardrobe, paint"
so who rents bedsits, studios or flats etc which are just a door, 4 walls and a roof but nothing else, completely empty kitchens apart from a sink? I know flats are furnished or unfurnished but I've never seen one advertised that has nothing whatsoever in it.
I cant quite understand this - obviously these are people from difficult circumstances, maybe just out of the care system or out of prison and they have had help with the deposits and getting their benefits claims sorted out. It just sounds very peculiar not to even have a fridge and a hob or microwave etc.

No Seren. The results are normally available 2-4 hrs after collection.“Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.” ~ Ferris Bueller0 -

In the midst of an amusing conversation with eldest son.
I found the link for a Livingsocial deal for a nice meal out with fizz in a Brum restaurant over looking the city - quite flash. It is GFs birthday on the 12th and eldest son did say they might go to an Indian so I thought it would be nice for them to do something a bit more upmarket - in fact if he thought it was really good I would have treated them - but I had to run it by him anyway to gauge his reaction.
so I sent the link and back came the reply
"I will take note but I'm trying to limit unnecessary spends" :rotfl:
This is even more amusing when you think he has not saved a single penny in years, not since he came back from overseas posting.
so I sent him the MSE mantra link

My current flat came with a beautiful newly fitted kitchen and new bathroom but no white goods whatsoever - it didn't matter as I already had them, in fact I had too many items to fit in.
Previous place belonged to family, came with gas cooker and wardrobes, but only because they wanted to leave them behind, ditto small tumble drier.
Place before that - nothing at all provided by private LL but I did a deal with the outgoing tenant who'd shown me round and acquired electric cooker, very nice dining table and chairs from Next, all for peanuts.
Place before that - country retreat - nothing at all provided by private LL but the last people had left a washing machine which I got rid of, but I had way too much stuff going in to that one anyway, as the place before that was my own 4-bed house which I'd sold.
I don't think LA or HA generally provide white goods - too much liability, I'd imagine. And private LL, well it's a lottery - some do, some don't, mine didn't, but I think the newer buy-to-let people try to do their best, whereas the old established ones just carry on as they've always done.“All shall be well, and all shall be well and all manner of thing shall be well.”0 -
For what its worth. I have 3 a accounts. One for me, one for my mum and one for my brother. I sometimes order using my computer at home, sometimes at my mums. Each has a different adress of course but I use the same card. So far have got £80 apg on each one this month and the vouchers have come through ok. When it says put a name for the card I put different name, e.g. on mine I put home, for my mums I put daughters and for my brother put sister. If it gets questioned, I will say I do shopping for my mum and brother which is true.
So far no problems. But thought would mention it as an idea to those having problems.
I have two accounts that have not been closed, but only one to our house... and neither will allow sharpies on CIC... so I am restricted.:D

The basics are;
1. Kitchen units/sink (this can be very small)
2. Working bathroom.
3. Working heating
4. Safety checks.
I would like to say dry but many places are damp.
Many people don't have anything at all except the clothes that they stand in. People coming out of care and prison do get support, it is often other people who fall through the gaps of social care provision that have nothing.100 -

purely my opinion...but I think if you are a decent LL then your property should include basic white goods....in our case thats a fridge freezer,washer/dryer and a cooker.....a couple of properties also include a dishwasher and vacuums.....
if a LL doesnt supply white goods then they are not responsible for the upkeep of them and as a consequence many nowadays are choosing to not supply as its one less thing to deal with....frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Flip, that is a lot of house moves!
I think that there is some requirement to have electrical appliances checked as being safe every so often. If you have the white goods included, you are normally paying a premium which includes the costs of these of these of the expected lifespan.100
