Afternoon all!
Just popping in to say I had a job offer this morning! :j It has really made my Christmas, it means so much to know that I have a job to go to in January, so now I'll really be able to properly relax and enjoy the holiday. They've pencilled me in to start mid-January so I'll have a couple more weeks off than I expected, so I'm going to make sure I treat myself and do some baking and crafting and fun things for once:D:D
:j:j Congratulations :j:j0 -

Does that beat Aldi / Lidl?
[...]
At first sight (yesterday night and sorry for my delay in getting around to replying to this) I was going to say 'no' as Aldi/Lidl are 19p. Therefore Mr A a little bit expensive:rotfl:.
However, taking the weights as being exactly as stated - and they are not always - the Broccoli in A (360g) technically works out cheaper than Aldi (335g). A works out a fraction of a penny cheaper when adjusted down to 335g although you are paying a penny more than Aldi but getting the 25g. So my all my broccolis in Aldi were an overpayment:(. However, it's a fraction of a penny and I always pick the biggest looking ones anyway, so it should be more than 335g (although some of the ones in A may weigh in more than 360g - I think they adjusted that though just to be closer to their actual weight and therefore adjust the APG less in our favour). Besides does anyone ever really have 25g of broccoli? Nonetheless, on four broccolis, I've ended up with 100g less for the 'same price (by weight)' in Aldi. Which, based on prices of 36p for a broccoli (recent normal Aldi price), is over 10p loss!
Nonetheless, the price of broccoli (in A and Aldi) has been devalued this week, so that it's around a 5.7p loss. 100g of broccoli, on the current prices, would equate to about 5.6p (although obviously it could not be bought like that but as another 360g). Don't be buying (500g) Broccoli in Lidl though as, as of yesterday, it's price had not been reduced. In addition, Aldi's Parsnips are said to be 600g so, at 19p, I think work out better than Lidl's at 19p (which I think are 500g). The carrots in A are an overpayment (of 1p compared to current Aldi/Lidl) and poor Lidl having to reduce the price of its carrots by a further 10p compared to last week!
In M they now have offers on some veg. and potatoes but, in the light of the above prices, they work out rather poor and M want you to mbuy:(. So, still paying them at least £1 in total (their offer is 3 for £1)! The Maris Piper Potatoes 2.5Kg at 3 for £1 are more expensive than the 2Kg ones which I assume to still be available in Aldi at 19p. The Savoy Cabbage is now cheaper, on the offer, but, given the other veg., why bother? Onions 1Kg are the on 3 for £1 - I don't think they are currently cheaper elsewhere - although you would need to buy into the mbuy and of course they have been cheaper bought on the not very usual offers of 28p and the like around Easter. Carrots (1Kg) could be a potentially filler - and not having to buy any more than one bag - on an Avs M shop as long as the collectors continue to miss the Carrots in M - however Aldi (and Lidl as a result of Aldi:p) are 19p so no good in A(:rotfl:)!
M's Christmas present to us this week though is to put up the price of all the 1L alcohol bottles, that were £15 offer last week, to £18:(. So, no use thinking that everything in a store is cheap - it's no good making savings (of pence on a bag of veg.) and then paying £3 more on alcohol, wiping out all your saving and more:eek:! Every retailer would have to work like this though, to make any money at all, so, clearly the cheap price of the veg. must be being paid for through more expensive prices on other items! So, only buy the veg.:rotfl:
It's been said that sprouts prices may rise, due to failed crops this year. However, despite this, the supermarkets are actually having these offers - clearly they must be loss leaders. So, even if we get inflationary times, there will always be loss leaders around on which we can save. Aldi and Lidl are 1p cheaper than A (they don't want to be cheapest?!) on the sprouts - 500g in each store - however Aldi's need peeling, don't know about Lidl's or A's - so maybe getting less from Aldi if losing the peeled off parts? Are A's/Lidl's peeled or not?
If they are not, then sprouts, carrots and parsnips are 'cheaper in Aldi/Lidl' (by 1p) but the Broccoli, on weight adjustment, is technically cheaper in A (assuming Aldi's is 335g and A's is 360g when, in fact, individual specimens would vary in weight).
The M list is now updated - I was originally intending to write a post about more of what new offers have started in M but it would take me a quite some time to do that and I'm worn out of doing it now - it's all on the list anyway so can be seen there. So, instead, I will have an early night from here:j - I will bid you goodbye for now. (I shan't be having an early night though, as I shall still be awake for several hours yet:rotfl:. Just nice to have some free time available of this evening!) Whilst I pop off, see you later:wave:.0 -

Bless he is deteroraiting rapidly.
Mum has had a diagnosis of Alzheimers for 4 years now and has a couple of strokes in this time.
I had her making mince pies last night she did rather well, but then panicked that she was not in bed for 9 pm! She is so child like and had to take her baking home with her (thank god!). I was pleased when I got her into bed.
During these 4 years she had been taking my shopping home with her, but now takes what ever she fancies from my house, I retrieve them later!
It is rather sad as apart from the strokes and confusion she is fit and well, so may end up alive with no quality of life..... very very cruel.100 -
