Any suggestions from the Elite school of life management please.
There is someone I know who is totally and utterly convinced that I hate their partner. I have never met their partner and I am never likely to – they don’t even live anywhere close and apart from maybe 1 or 2 occasions a year we would never even be in the same county. I know nothing whatsoever about their partner (apart from what they look like from a bit of FB snooping). A long while ago I have tried to ask indirect questions about the partner but I was always blanked - I just took it that it was a new relationship and therefore private. I realised now that even at that early stage he thought that I hated the partner so I was never going to be given any information about them.
Person A also goes around complaining about me to mutual acquaintances and my hatred of their partner and I get portrayed as some sort of evil and horrible person.
Yes it’s all a bit juvenile (and bordering on deranged) , I honestly could not care less about either of them, I long ago stepped back, lost interest, got on with my own life. But the bad mouthing is a bit annoying – it puts mutual friends in a bit of a spot as they feel like piggies in the middle. They tread on egg shells around me but I have the hide of a rhinoceroses – just really glad the topic does not come up very often as it became tedious long ago.
It feels a bit like I’ve been here before. My m-i-l really hated me without any cause or justification. I put up with it for decades because the kids really loved her. I had to just settle for her loathing and contempt for the sake of a quiet life. Eventually she was diagnosed and she became utterly dependant on us for those last 12 weeks. Only then did she see the light, after putting me through this misery for years, did she realise I was not the horrible person she always saw me as.
So I am not going down this road again, trying to pacify someone who thinks ill of me. If I am hated, so what, I am moving onwards. I have a lot of life to live and love to give and I am not wasting my energies on anyone with a distorted view of me with no basis in any truth.
Has anyone else had a similar situation through their life and how did you tackle it?
I had to tolerate that with my step mother.
Before she married father she was nice as pie, I was even a matron of honour at their wedding, but her kids gave her two grand daughters and then we had our son and that was it. I can only imagine she was worried that our son would grab father's attention, though why she thought that I don't know because he forgot I existed long before that. We would visit with the kids and when one of us was out of the room she would !!!!! about the other. Then it got to phone calls, it was the only communication that I had left with father, and she gave him little statements to make at the end, such as I needed to lose 10 stone urgently (If I did I would not survive) or I did not need to wear my glasses all the time (believe me, I do). How she could possibly know any of this I have no idea because by that time it was many years since we had seen either of them, but he insisted she must be right because she was a medical professional. She was a dentist for bleeps' sake!!!!
She was actually actively trying to split us up in the end too, but she didn't just do it to us, none of her kids had relationships that lasted. We were told off once when we went round to see one of her kids and her partner. We were back about 11, not late, but apparently too late for father & wife to go around and "sort out their relationship", no wonder they didn't want us to leave
Anyway, I dealt with this the only way I could, I had nothing more to do with them. I think some people are only capable of being mean, it seems to give them some sort of horrible boost. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

The standard (that is non-whoopsie) prices of some fruit & veg. in M has risen (and, as a result of that, I'm sure the whoopsies won't quite go as low as they did before). Loose Bramley Apples where M used to be the best competitor price months ago - £1.53/Kg! - currently £1.25/Kg in A are now £2.03/Kg in M! The price on many of the loose apples is £2.36/Kg:eek: (price believed to be valid yesterday). A currently have Braeburn Apples (loose) at £1.50/Kg and I might say 'keep away from an M comp. shop' - however the collectors might miss the loose fruit again. M do seem very pricey on some fruit and veg. now - and, with price matching (via points) having been abandoned, shopping at Lidl or Aldi for some fruit or veg. may be cheaper. Of course, people just pick one supermarket and, if they are shopping and buying other offers in M, they will tend just to get their fruit & veg. at the same place and pay more for it!0

Why all these expensive calendars at several £££s each? We are already several days into the 24 day countdown so this sort of product seems to me quite worthless now and I can't see why to pay several pounds for it. What exactly is it? There are surely cheaper ways to have candles or probably a lot more chocolate than what the calendars have. Or is this the Aldi/Lidl approach again, whereby you go and get products that are discounted (in fact, I don't think so - that's something they like people to think is the case - quite a lot of items seem to me to be the same price as elsewhere) and, whilst at Aldi/Lidl, supposedly buying bargains, you then buy some exclusive, special, luxury item that is a way of taking a lot of money away from you? Probably making Aldi/Lidl much much more expensive places than elsewhere if anyone also gets those [Strike]luxury items[/Strike], correction: items that the stores brand as being "luxury", in order to make us feel they are special and be prepared to pay more for.
I have no idea who would ever pay more than a pound for an advent calendar at any time, and certainly right now - 13th December - they should be no more than 25p - but, then, that's just me.
I don't see why to pay £5:eek: for an advent calendar - or, even going for a 3 for 2 offer:eek: - and paying £10:eek::eek: in order to buy three times as much! One is unnecessary - three is three times unnecessary.0 -
I know Emerald and I am trying. I currently work 1-4 on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday but I have said that doing the two days in a row is too much for me as I need recovery time inbetween, so they are trying to get someone for the Saturdays, though I will continue until they find someone
It's the story of my life though. I think back to when we were heavily involved in golf. I couldn't just play and walk away, so at one time I was Club Secretary, Ladies Captain, and Ladies County Secretary. I played a lot too then my body kept breaking down and telling me to stop, so a break and back in again, but doing the same
I must learn my limits that my body sets. I have had arthritis since I was about 33, got ill-health retirement end of 1989 due to it. When it improved in late 90's that's when I got into golf but as I say, I go full trottle and it all gets too much
I have to learn when to say no
Yes it's not easy I know. I used to be rushing around like a blue ***** fly chasing after bargains and freebies just to give some away but not any more. I chose what I go after. I don't do as much as you but I get tired sometimes and just have to rest and pace myself.0
