Don't you grow them at your allotment?

Mr TS has never had much luck. :o. He gets a few....

The sweetcorn have done fantastically well this year though. :)

Going to miss a stash of potatoes this year the whole allotment site had blight. We just have few from home. :(

Thankyou Elite for all your posts re my little 2year olds accident ...I have found out he caught his leg as he got out of the trampoline which caused the injury...I do update on his condition is they are putting him in a cast today;)as needed to wait for the swelling to go down ...I do not envy Mum and Dad trying to keep a normal energetic little 2year old who will have limited movement and not able to do much ...frustration and tantrums come to mind:eek::eek:

    :)

Cooler here today - have longer trousers on :o

Last line of holiday washing out, fingers crossed :)

Some ghastly small boys are vandalizing our square  They don't even live here, last night they jumped into the communal hedges & broke them down. Path is strewn with hedge debris :(
We can't see out the front unless we go upstairs so I missed them.
One neighbour had words with them so hopefully they will not return. Plus she can name them :)

I have orange, white and red carrots.
Sweetcorn did really well, picked and froze the last lot yesterday. I got one of the Oxo cutters for shucking it, which made it quick and easy. Lots of cobs in the freezer as well. Just have loads of the 'mistake' popcorn sweetcorn left.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Peas have been fantastic, will be hard pressed to pick, pod and freeze the rest before I go away.
Potatoes should last till next June/July - standard whites/reds, Charlottes, International kidney and Pink Fir.

Tomatoes got blight last week but had loads before. Jars of dried Czar runner beans (butterbeans), borlotti and kidney beans (Canadian red wonder) in the garage plus 'fresh' ones in the freezer.

Parsnips will leave until after the first frost. Not sure on the turnips/swede as never grown them before, so unsure when to pick.

Onion and shallots should see me through till June. Plenty of leeks as well.

Taken bags of squash, pattypan etc to Dad's care home as a lot of the staff love them and I had too many. Ditto runner beans, beetroot, cucumbers, tomatoes etc.

Cabbages, caulis (a first - usually they get eaten by insects:eek:) and brussels still growing. Plus all of the soft fruit. It has been a very productive year.

    So pleased for DD2. :T:T:T

I got a small piece of beef brisket priced at exactly £5 with mine, so cost us nothing. It did us for Sunday lunch and sandwiches the next day.

    Morning all :)

Ooh that sounds nice, was it in the deli bit or in the normal meat fridge area? I've never done it before, but I'm sure I've heard it's supposed to be slow cooked. Perfect for me, being at work all day and come home to yummy tea already cooked :D

I think I must have been dropped by Orchard :o. I joined but as I am not active on FB I didn't spread the word and forgot to give feedback, so my own fault really.

I hardly do anything, I'm surprised I'm still on it to be honest! I never post to FB at all. Maybe try logging in and seeing if you have any surveys or things to update? They always do a meaty one or cheese one around Christmas, if memory serves, so worth trying.

    Good morning all...

Tiny..I'm so pleased for your DD,well done
and what a great shop you had last night with the whoopsies,I need to do something like that soon,we are running out of fresh stuff so instead of a morning shop today I will be trying a little later this evening.

I had a bit of a down moment about it all last night.I think it stemmed a little from the trip to the cinema on Saturday...we watched I Daniel Blake....gritty,somewhat true to life in a northern town for lots of people and it just hit home how much some people just need some compassion and kindness in their lives.....there are preview screenings of it before the film is released, its no fairytale with a happy ending but for those who are interested in social interaction and observing others lives its a real insight.

anyway back to the frugalness....I need bread milk and orange squash today so in effect that will wipe out any available money to spend so its reduced fishcakes from the freezer and I have a large sweet potato that I can probably do something with.
We have one large box of thorntons chocs left from when they were £1 a box earlier in the year so that was opened last night and will probably last into next week as treats.desserts/puddings whatever you want to call it.

OH has next week off work as holiday,we are not going away but thats when I really see a challenge to keep it going....normally we would have a few meals out as part of day trips etc but the budget wont allow it this time...so if we do go out it will be with a creative picnic!
I am starting to have enormous respect for those that do manage on a tight budget for whatever reason,it is starting to become a juggle to decide between buying what I need and what I want...and I'm only 4 days in.....for some this is week in week out and a lifestyle, not even necessarily by choice.

Onwards and upwards to the day...have a good one all and make the most of it x

Hope you feel better today, maybe take some time to do something nice that you enjoy and cheer yourself up?

I don't think many of the Elite really know what it's like to be on this kind of budget anymore, I'd say most of us do what we do to have nicer things at a reduced price, not out of necessity. I know my in-laws were on a very tight budget when they were both on jobseekers and the only way they got by was family food donations because it was just an unrealistic amount of money, once bills etc. were paid, and there was no such thing as luxuries. It definitely makes you think how life could be different doesn't it. :o

For pudding, I bought a £1 large swiss roll from T, and I had it with custard on Sunday, and will either be with ice cream from the freezer, or plain (or perhaps custard pt 2) tonight. Cheap for 12 portions :D

I've got one free too - thanks to you and TM - also got 3 jackets from Daxon coming today so that will be 4 new jackets for £9.00 which. to be honest, I don't need, but it would have been rude not too!
They didn't have my size in the £2 red jacket so I bought 1 a size bigger and 1 a size smaller with the intention of selling the 'worst fit'!
