They nicknamed the place cold comfort farm, but bloody hell, open fires don't have throw of some heat, you always left there place with rosy cheeks and sweat forming on your brow
We've always had log burners and when we moved here we ripped out both gas fires and put in one log burner which heats all of downstairs and very rare the heating gets put on for upstairs. Plus I think Bub loves the fire too, when it first went on he couldn't have got closer if he tried
I think there is nothing like a real fire. I think OH should connect the underfloor heating to it... he swore at me!We were a little worried about her because a couple of times when we asked who she was sitting next to at lunch she said "nobody sits next to me"
Then one day she said something like "Ella had a green and red twisty sweety thing in her lunch box that looked good. Could I get something like that for a treat please?"
We asked if Ella was sitting at another table and were told: "No, she sits on the other side of my table and faces me. Ella is my friend"
Turns out she had been taking "next to" quite literally :kisses3:
We now know that we have to ask "who was sitting at the same table as you?" :rotfl:
She sounds fab x
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I can remember in the 1970's when we were hardup having an open fire where we burnt offcuts from a small factory that made wooden window frames. We used to get slack from a disused steam railway station. There was a huge stack of it just sitting there for anybody to take.
Damping it down and stacking it on the fire last thing at night and using the paper to get it going in the morning.Trouble was the paper very often caught alight and flew up the chimney and set it on fire burning off all the soot..:rotfl::rotfl:
And you used to have to quickly let go!
My nana use to scorch her clothes (well her bottom!)
The rules in our house was if you saw wood outside, you took it home for the fire.
We also used to get sent to the farmers fields to pick the crops around the edges of the fields (or just dig the crops up!!)
And someone was always bringing a rabbit for a stew... I do not miss this!:D:D

Caution! 1pint app is being replaced with C4rlng Tap (upgrade applied today when I didn't pay attention to what apps were updating
). It used my mobile number and verification by text (plus asks for your name) to login not email (though email is still there in settings). Cheers function has gone from the app . May be worth not upgrading until you are forced to in order to get a few more free beers before it is switched off - your vouchers are safe in the wallet and rewards is there but may function differently with the login/logout trick.
... End of an era.
