So do we have any tiny eliters who are starting school for the first time next week....

I know I read that AAU's DD started for the first time when the over the borders went back a few weeks ago....(hope it's all going well and she's made some friends and she's almost a pro at this school lark now)

This is the first year in many that I haven't had to deal with the back to school....but it is 18 days and counting to uni lift off!

DGS starts fulltime in two weeks. There's a staggered start to let those little ones who didn't go to their nursery get used to the place in a small group. Anyway, he went daily to nursery so he gets to go into his new class with the last group.

Nursery was half a day every day for free, but at his insistence, he went fulltime as often as he could. So he's quite used to being at school all day even though officially he's only just beginning his first year.

DGD goes into juniors, or whatever they call it now, so she joins the bigger children. A little fish in a bigger pond!

I can remember in the 1970's when we were hardup having an open fire where we burnt offcuts from a small factory that made wooden window frames. We used to get slack from a disused steam railway station. There was a huge stack of it just sitting there for anybody to take.

Damping it down and stacking it on the fire last thing at night and using the paper to get it going in the morning.Trouble was the paper very often caught alight and flew up the chimney and set it on fire burning off all the soot..:rotfl::rotfl:

Happy memories, not all of my childhood as have had open fires on and off during life, last time 2002-2004 and still used paper to get them going, until Alan made a metal plate to do the job after I told him of one my Dad made for Mam in days gone by. Love an open fire, just to look at :D

In the North East, sea coal was picked from the local beaches where it was washed up and used to dampen the fire for any long period:)
