plenty of ways for a parcel to get into the system without postage. The old drop and go system for instance, buyer drops off parcels for postage and charging, a single parcel gets forgotten and no one notices.
I once had an entire batch of items sent with no postage through something similar. Before I started printing at home I would go to the PO or mail centre and if they were busy we would quickly go through the parcels, they would add up what postage would be, stamp my POP charge me and I'd leave them there to be done when it was quieter. One whole batch went without any stamps at all. Strangely enough not all the buyers contacted me!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Just a follow up in case anyone is interested.
I went to the sorting office and they did allow me to see the item (I noticed they wouldn't let me touch it, mind you)
It was an A5 envelope, very thin as if it had a single page letter in it. The reason it was so expensive was that it had a SD sticker on the front and nothing else! The tracking number on the SD sticker didn't track, and the staff suggested it might have been put on in error and the letter just dropped into the mail by mistake.
All very mysterious but I had a sneaking suspicion of what it might be (I was wrong, as it turned out) so I decided not to hand over £8, and just allow them to send it to the undelivered mail office in Ireland where they will open it and decide what to do with it.
Then today I received in the post an A5 envelope with the same handwriting on the front. Turns out it was a letter from my employer - which had already been sent to me by email anyway. When I opened the letter today I remembered that they sent me another letter a couple of weeks ago (I received the email copy and forgot they were also sending it in the post), so I'm sure that's what the unpaid postage item was and I'm really glad I didn't pay up!
EDIT The one I received today had been franked (presumably in the work mail room rather than the post office).0
