Aqua taken money from me a year on!

Did a balance transfer from Tesco to Aqua in March last year. Messed up and was meant to pay off my Lloyds card instead so requested that Aqua send the money back to Tesco. They did, however they did this twice.

I hold my hands up to not noticing this happening. They have since just taken the money from my Tesco card leaving it way over my credit limit. Tesco are being really supportive but Aqua are being absolute ******* They are asking ME to prove that it was them that sent the money a year ago, and proof that it was sent back to Aqua in March THIS year.

Im having pointless phone calls with nothing really happening and I just have no idea what to do. Ive filled complaints with the ombudsman.

Anyone have any advice?

So you spent the extra money on theTesco card ? Surely your Tesco card would have been in credit ?

Can't see the complaint to the Ombudsman getting very far, what do you want the outcome to be ? Best option is to arrange a repayment plan with Tesco.

Thanks for your positive reply there

For one I didn't agree for the money to leave my Tesco account. They informed me and then the communication went down hill on their part and subsequently the money left.

When the balance transfer went to Aqua the amount was way over my credit limit therefore they put my acoount on hold for security reasons.

When Aqua sent 2 payments across the Tesco, the same thing happened except for the fact that Tesco didn't put a hold on my account for the time my account was over double my credit limit. If Tesco had done this then I wouldn't be in this situation.

Can thy take the money without my permission a year down the line?

And before you say it, yes I know this is part my fault.

As a general rule, yes, when someone has your credit card number they can take what they want, when they want, without asking you. Morally repugnant, I know, but it's how hotels, car hire companies, and the CC companies themselves operate, to name but a few. Your major concern now should be to check that Tesco haven't blacklisted you at the CRAs.

You say you know it's your fault but seem to think that there is some other solution ? There really isn't, you owe the money, it needs to be paid back. If Tesco are being reasonable, they'll probably allow you to pay it back by agreeing a repayment plan with you. No amount of discussion on here will change anything.

Have you not checked a credit card statement in the past year?

Hard to understand how you could not notice a lump sum appearing in your account.

Yeah I have voiced my concern about my credit ratings with Tesco and they are dealing with that for me. My whole point of coming to this forum was to find out whether a company can actually take money without my consent.

I have thankyou. I still had all my statements from both complanies which was much easier for me when I had to try and think back to a year ago as to what exactly happened.

I agree it is very hard to see, I spent a week trying to work it out. Fortunatly I did so I can explain it better now. If you saw my statements most people would see how easily it was to have been missed.

I wont go into my life story but I was on depression tablets at the time of this happening. But thanks for asking!

Erm, no that's what you think im implying. I have to pay the money back, I am not a complete idiot as you seem to think I must be. Im just a single mum in a bit of bother looking for a bit of support from people who have had more experience with credit card companies taking the mick!

I expect your credit card statements are the same as everyone else's, with different columns for debits and credits. You didn't notice this random large amount in the credits column? If that is genuinely the case, then I suggest you check the debits column also, people could be stealing thousands and you apparently would not notice!

No-one has said you're an idiot. I'm a single Mum too, when you have to manage your budget so carefully, it's hard to understand how you didn't notice the extra credit. Why do you think the credit card company is taking the mick ? They're simply correcting a mistake. If you'd contacted them when it first happened it wouldn't be a problem now.
