interest charges

I always pay off my balance in full each month, which normally is a routine matter. However this month I have received my statement showing £1000, but since the statement date one of the transactions making up that amount has been refunded - amounting to £300. Will a payment of £700 now pay the balance in full or will the refund not have been attributed to that month?

Comments

  • It will depend on when the refund was made and the repayment date.
If you don't get the benefit this month you will next.
  • The statement day was 4/9/07 and the refunded amount hit my account on 6/9/07. I'd rather not be paying £1000 if it only takes £700 to settle in full, but don't want to risk having to pay interest on the refunded £300 either.

It may depend on which CC issuer you are with. For instance, I think I have noticed that Egg take account of refunds when they collect my full payment.

If you always pay your account in full, I suggest that, for the future, you arrange a DD to collect the full amount. That way the CC company will collect the money it believes is due and you don't have to take account of refunds yourself when making a calculation. They also take the money at the last possible moment and this may even gain you a little interest in your current account if you normally allow a little leeway for payments to reach your CC account.
