There is no appetite whatsoever to join a USE, not in the UK, nor in France, nor in Germany, nor in the Netherlands, nor in Spain, nor in Belgium, nor in Italy, nor in Poland, nor in Portugal, nor in Ireland...etc...etc...
Really michaels, you're taking this project fear thing a bit far."My vision is one of political union because Europe needs to forge its own unique path. We need to become incrementally closer and closer, in all policy areas," the chancellor said. "Over a long process, we will transfer more powers to the [European] Commission, which will then handle what falls within the European remit like a government of Europe. That will require a strong parliament. A kind of second chamber, if you like, will be the council comprising the heads of [national] government."
"And finally, the supreme court will be the European court of justice. That could be what Europe's political union looks like in the future – some time in the future, as I say, and after a goodly number of interim stages."

I notice Mrs. Merkel even acknowledges the existence of nation states in her visions as per your quoted bit.A kind of second chamber, if you like, will be the council comprising the heads of [national] government.
Sure, one can not deny she's a great fan of closer integration, but as the UK has successfully opted out of previous closer union initiatives and can do so in the future, it's all a bit irrelevant.Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0 -

So... no U.S.E then.

given how liitle impact the EU has on our lives, one wonders why we don't just have a free trade area in goods and services with any country that wants to join0 -

Every decision by a UK Government can now be appealed at enormous cost to the taxpayer. Like the USA. Money now rules. As money enables people to lobby and buy control.0 -
