New Build Developer Threatening To Pull Out Due To Impatience

  • False alarm. I just got rang by the Director. Apparently it was a misinterpreted message where by "cancel" it simply meant, cancel on the system and then reintegrate it when the deal was ready to go ahead. However this was not conveyed to me properly in correspondence. I must have received about 20 apologies on the same phone call explaining the situation but oh my god I feel so much better now.

I thank you all for your help though and comments. But I can now carry on with my day assured that things will work out as I hoped. And certainly I'm happy that my developer rang me personally to apologise, the customer service has I admit, being excellent with this episode being a minor blip that is now resolved.

If only Barratt Homes cared about their customers as much!!
  • I read your story, sorry to hear about that mate. :-( If they weren't so expensive I would have considered the Barratts near me so I'm glad I avoided them. Best wishes to you.

Don't feel as though you're out of the woods yet.

I had exactly the same treatment from the same developer up until exchange actually took place. Making all the same arguments, that it was a 3rd party causing the delay and it only stopped once we had exchanged.

Taking everything into account, how my neighbours still haven't exchanged but reserved at the same time, it's a pressure tactic. They're fully aware that it would take longer to get a new buyer than it would to proceed with yourself. But you do need to keep things moving along at a decent pace, better you deal with the stress of constant chasing than the disappointment of the deal being pulled.
  • Yes you are right indeed, I'm not out of the woods, but I'm further up the tree while the wolves circle below. I just have to be patient and let the exchange take place normally, but trust me compared to the chest anxiety attacks I've had this week, I feel so much more relieved.

    I imagine you do.

I went nuts at the sales consultants, it's not their fault but they are the face of the company which was threatening to screw me out of £10k in upgrades and reservation fees.

Up until exchange they have you over a barrel, then once you've exchanged and you're legally bound to purchase the property, they have you over a barrel. The system requires some consumer protection.
