Need urgent help please

Just switched the mixer tap on in the kitchen and it made a click and then I couldn't turn the tap off its was just running full blast. I have had to turn the water off but now I can't use the washing machine, toilets etc etc so I need to have the water on but how can I stop this tap running and the shop is now shut so can't buy new tap today?? I also don't even know how to take the tap off????

Any advice please?

If its quite a new tap, have a look in the cupboard undernetth as most have a seperate isolating valve on the pipework that you can turn off until the problem is sorted..........
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!
  • Hi

Hot or cold? Do you have any isolating valves under the sink apart from one that might turn off the whole house? Are you mains hot (combi)?
    Single lever mixer or two?

Hi thanks for your replies. I can't see anything that looks like it would isolate it under the sink. It is quite a new tap, 12mths old. What does single lever or double mean? It just has one handle to switch on and off if you see what I mean? Sorry I am so useless this is why I needed urgent help
  • Hi

I take it that you have lifted the lever up and now it won't go down but maybe it will go left to right? If you are lucky it might be the lever thats the problem, have a look under the lever and you should find a little plastic plug, pop it out and in there somewhere will be a small screw (it might be hex head) undo this and the handle will come off .See if it will go down now.
If not then it's the cartridge that's stuck.
Installer should have fitted means of isolation.
