Working Tax Credit

Hi,
Is the oldest of a couple better being the main applicant for Working Tax Credit (WTC) at all? I am starting to battle within my head my part of WTC will be going into partner's account. Partner already has a live WTC claim therefore I will be joining soon. How do I address getting my section of this. Does the award specify partner a gets x amount partner b gets x amount?
I have my own bank account and partner has the same. I am NOT going back to pooling money like has happened in previous relationships. I have learned the lesson and enjoy being free with my money. Half all the bills . After that.....
So really uptight my money will be going into partner's account all because partner is the live claim. I had major problems in a previous relationship and HATE this idea of my money without choice going into another's account.

The only option is a joint claim in this situation, so whatever you both get will have to be split between you.
There's no option to have the payment split.💙💛 💔0 -
Thought this would be the case
Will the paperwork of the award list what each of us gets to make the total? Or do they just lump it all together with a 50/50 split having to be done ourselves? 0 -

there is no split, 50/50 or otherwise
If you do not qualify for WTC currently then whatever is awarded will be extra for you
If your partner has an existing claim, what impact is moving to a joint claim going to do? the cutoff on income is higher (£18k joint income, v's £13k single income) but their current amount may well be reduced due to your income so they may not be happy to give away £s and be worse off still....all depends on whether they have the same attitude to money as you
Maybe the WTC amount would be increased and your partner would pass over the incremental to you...eg currently receive £40 per month WTC, under joint claim this is now £60 per per month, they could give you the £20 per month so they are no worse off and you are better off
or...If you currently share the bills 50/50, maybe agree that the WTC goes against household bills...food shopping, gas bill etc so you both receive the benefit of it0 -

There isn't a 'your section', your WTC is for couples, so it is a household payment.
Why a 50/50 split, do you earn the same amount of money?
Perhaps the best person to help you solve your dilemma is your partner...........0 -
If you move in with a partner they won't have a live claim anymore, they will need to end the claim.
A new application form will then be sent for you to complete as a couple. The form is split into "You" and "Your Partner". It doesn't matter which order this is in as its a joint claim.
You decide at this point which bank account it will be paid to. It is up to you both how you arrange the money, tax credits simply pay it to the requested account. It's not for them to split it based on your personal financial arrangements.0 -
could you get the wtc paid into a new bank account.. one that you both also pay £x amout into and this account is for bills with all the direct debits etc... then what ever you have in your own account is yours to do with as you wish?
The wtc award wont state what proportion of the award is from your income and what from wifes.. I don't think its that simple, so you would need to decide how to distribute it if you kept separate accounts.0 -
Sounds like a wonderful sharing caring relationship, worrying what account a bit of benefit money goes into.
What do you think should be YOUR share? There's a chance that the difference between partners single and your new joint claim, could be a small increase, so would you be happy only getting the little difference and partner keeping what they got before as that's THEIR money? Your joint claim could result in a decrease in WTC compared to partners single claim, are you going to make up the difference as you've affected THEIR money?

Wind your neck in folks. As I said be burnt before so be a fool not to heed the lesson.0

if you've been burnt before than maybe it would be a wise thing not to move in with someone until you're sure?
you're scared over money but willing to share every other aspect of your life with them?
people seriously need to realise that the state isn't there to sort out their own mistakes0
