New tenant in old propert

I'll try to be to the point with this

We are moving out of a rented flat - been here 2 years.

Landlord has never been round, we deal with him, no agent.

Landlord has rented property through agent using old pictures.

Had 1 viewing and they were accepted, move in next week.

Unfortunately as they have now seen property before and after our stay they have emailed the agent regarding some things they want 'to make sure we do' before we vacate.

The girl dealing with it has forwarded the requests to me.

Is this right? I couldnt help but say I'll be dealing with the landlord not the new tenants!

If I don't want to do anything that that's the landlords dispute with me and my deposit!

How could you put this politely to the agent?

    Personally, I would ignore the email. As you say, the new tenants' concerns are none of your business.

    What on earth have they requested??? Sounds very odd that the agent has forwarded it to you.

    What are they expecting you to do? The new tenant may want thing doing but is it your responsibility to do them?

    The new tenant, their contract, and their requests are none of your business.

    Ignore. If you respond you will simply start a pointless but time-comnsuming discussion on an irrelavancy.

    You have only 5 things to consider:

    1) did you end your tenancy properly ie give proper notice?
    2) have you left the property in the same (or better) condition as when you moved in (less fair wear & tear)?
    3) have you paid all your rent?
    4) have you written to the landlord requesting the return of your deposit?
    5) was your deposit protected in a registered scheme?

    Since the LL manages your tenancy, not the agent, do NOT respond to the agent. Deal (in writing) only with the landlord, on matters connected to 1) - 5) above.

    Sometimes you can be rude and ignore people, but like queueing, us Brits tend to do things a bit differently.

    What's ON the list is as important as the question you've asked.

    Short answer: No, ignore it. Not your problem.
    Long answer: Depends if the stuff there says things like "remove old junk from garden previous tenants have ditched there" ...

    So what's on the list?

    Did she just ring you with them? I'd send an email saying 'Seeing as I'm the tenant, not the landlord, I presume the earlier requests from the new tenant were sent to me in error and that you will forward them on to the landlord and all future dealings/requests will be direct with him'. End of.


    I wouldn't get into any further correspondence. She's probably not engaged her brain before calling.


    Unless... the things she's asking about are things you've done to the property without checking with the landlord. It prob needs returning to its original state (eg if you've painted a magnolia wall purple, or taken down shelving or put it up).
