Stamp duty query

My partner & I have a joint mortgage and are selling our current residential home to buy a new residential home jointly but my partner has an additional buy to let property, what's the impact on stamp duty?
There will be no change in his current separate btl mortgage. Our solicitors have not advised us that we will have increased stamp duty but I just wanted to check with the experts on here as I don't want a nasty surprise in a few weeks time. Many thanks in advance

same scenario was asked earlier today by someone else, read my earlier answer
also when asking a question about tax never ever use the politically correct expression "partner". Either you are married/ in a civil partnership or you are not married at all. It matters hugely in certain circumstances for tax purposes and "partner" just leaves it unclear.

Thank you booksurr. I understand your points about 'partner' but am still unsure on the SDLT. do you mean this would NOT apply as the number of properties does not increase?0
